I have noticed alot lately that everytime you show something cute that your pet did on youtube or on other forums or to neighbors, people tend to get a bit crazy and want to call SPCA on you.
It is troublesome because you end up with a knock on you door about a complaint from a neighbor about your cat is being abused when really you were just playing fetch with you cat. It is just strange how people over react to tiny things. I saw on youtube the other day some kittens meowing for food and harassing the owner while she got them some food. people commented that the person was starving her kittens, what? starving? I could have sworn all kittens meow and climb legs even draws to try and get the food out of the can or bag before the owner has a chance to scoop it out onto their bowl.

I remember I owned a Guinea pig and I spoiled her to death and I joined a forum to show her beautiful coat off. I remember I got all sorts of comments from people about how I handled her. I showed them a picture of her in her cage and of course it has poo in it and people saw and were yelling at me to clean her cage. I cant clean her cage once a day or every hour, those piggies poop alot.

I just wanted to know if anyone else has had so much trouble with so called "animal lovers" that don't see a good owner if it was in front of their faces. The so called "animal lovers" harass and harass you for little things you have done with your pet such as letting your cat play with a cute mouse toy and the so called "animal lovers" want to tell you "oh god it will choke and die a horrid death you horrible terrible owner" while you say to yourself ".. wow I brought this at petco too "

so whats your story when you ran into one of these uptight people?

I used to post on a forum that was specific to the breed of dog we have. Those people were kind of nuts- absolutely no sense of humor (and this is a breed of dog you'd have to have a sense of humor to own!) and if you disagreed with them about anything, they'd get all pissy.

At one point, someone posted a video from YouTube, a movie someone made with one of these dogs in it. The video was really stupid and I do think it was exploitive of the dog- the guy was taunting the dog, making it mad so it would growl, really offensive stuff like that.

Just about everyone on the site, myself included, agreed that they were mistreating the dog, and a few people said any video like this was exploitve and how can people laugh at their pets?!?! and I replied and said that the Pug Bowling video was an example of a really funny dog video and they just completely went off on me.

Granted, the guy does put Pledge on the floor first, but other than that, he's just playing with the dog- the dog must think it's fun or he wouldn't keep doing it. Heck, we do this to Albus with the laser pointer sometimes. No Pledge or bowling pins, he just chases the laser down the hall and slides into the closed door at the end.

Anyway, that was the beginning of the end of me posting on that site. Sometimes if I need advice, I'll poke around on there, but I try not to interact with them anymore.

TCS once had a member that would berate anyone that did not feed their cat premium, the more expensive, the better food. She had been on a dog site, and was complaining that she had gotten into an argument with a man that fed his dog Wal-Mart food. At least he was feeding it! When it was pointed out to her that in a perfect world, everybody would be educated on nutrition for their animals, and could all afford premium food, she blew a gasket and I don't think she ever came back.

Well, I can sympathize some, since there were a couple of people who thought this video was cruel:

I think the owner chose an unfortunate video title, but the cat is obviously healthy, happy, and well-cared for.

Sometimes we're all wound a little tight, I guess.

it seems that no one on youtube knows how to read the text that the authors put to explain the video on the side. but from that video that cat is beautiful I want it!

I posted on a guinea pig about my sister piggy who died because of a change in his diet. A lot of complications arose and there was nothing she could do, so I posted a warning about how it is vital to monitor your piggies when you change their food. And I was pretty much run off of the forum because of the people being cruel and hurtful.

Then I was on a rabbit forum and posted about how my piggy got ill and died within the space of 12 hours on a sunday. Nothing I could do as the vets were closed and it was less than 12 hours and was again run off for "killing" my baby!

But it goes the other way too.
On a hamster forum my sister said such and such cage is unsuitable for hamsters and recieved an oficial warning for scare mongering...when the plastic, ill ventilated and tiny cage is well known as un suitable but because she actually said it she was warned.

Goodness gracious. Some people are so rude and judgmental. I guess I am a bad meowmy, my cats meow too while I am preparing their food. Oh and I only scoop the litter boxes once a day... guess my kitties should be taken away from me.

I have a laser pointer too. Sometimes I do feel bad because Amadeus will get all wide eyed if I even REACH for the thing. But he loves running around and chasing that thing.

I feed my kitties Purina, and different kinds of food. I dont feed them the absolute cheap things like whiskas or kitkat because they will not eat it. They wouldn't even eat the expensive stuff that Tricia bought.
Teufel is prone on getting UTI's we were feeding him Royal Canin, my vet ended up taking me off it because she knew it was a financial burden on me but on the other hand Teufel is such a young cat he wouldnt need it for the rest of his life yet, so far so good.

I have been told that i am crazy and spoil my cats very much, i have set up my bedroom for them to have as a playground. They have two cat trees, they have a million of toys, they have 5 cat beds, two are made by a SS on this site which are beautiful! As you may see in some pics they have the nice chair where as us humans sit on the plastic chairs.

My mother on the other hand is a complete B**** if i was old enough all those years ago i would have reported her. My cats only like her because she plays with them all day long, but as soon as she drinks she will scream at them, hit them. She will grab the cats and rub their faces into the pee or poop that they did by accident on the floor or where ever. She will get the belt out if they have scratched the furniture.

So anyway back to the topic, Youtube has pretty nasty things for cats and i refuse to look at it

Sometimes you just have to shrug and walk away.

I live in the city on a very busy street near two very large dogs and lots of feral cats. My neighbor is from Russia, and is convinced that it is just cruel to keep a cat inside. Zissou got out once and while we were trying to catch her before she ran into the street and got killed, the neighbor walked by and nastily told me it was cruel to keep a cat inside anyway.

I was too busy to reply, but I thought about her poor cat that she kicks out for the whole night that just cowers under the stairwell because the poor thing is so scared. And how having an outdoor cat is specifically against the lease.

No sense arguing about it though, she's going to keep doing what she thinks is "right" and I'm going to keep hoping her cat doesn't die a horrible death.

I actually did have a minor problem on this forum when I posted a question about an annoyance going on with one of my kits & ended up getting a hard time about it. I quickly tired of feeling like I was being put in a defensive position over a simple question, it was more to pass the time & hear opinions than anything else, & ended up getting a giggle out of it because there are always the know-it-alls who just love to jump to conclusions to make themselves look smart.

All of this just proves that TCS is the best site on the web

Exept maybe for the comment above, but some people do think they know it all, when really they know NOTHING!

When I run into stuff like that, sometimes I'll start writing a retort to try and educate the person. Most of the time it has resulted in a flame war and I dropped it. Now, I don't even bother. I've got better things to do than waste my time on a trivial issue. I've been lucky enough to never be in too bad of a situation, but if I was, I just left the forum.

I just don't get involved anymore...life is too short!
