Oh

my

god!

This movie is worth all the good reviews it's been getting Heath Ledger's final full performance as Joker is nothing short of amazing. There's a good reason they are talking Oscar nomination, possibly even a win (which would be unprecedented for a comic book film).

This movie is so much more than good guy/bad guy. There is definitely a BAD guy (Joker), who is the embodiment of chaos. Not evil, chaos. The rest of the characters, from Bruce Wayne/Batman to Harvey Dent to Rachel Daws to Jim Gordon to Lucious Fox are conflicted between what is right, what is wrong, and what is necessary. To call this simply a Superhero Movie would be doing it a grave disservice. It is full of action, no doubt, but it has character development that has been sorely lacking in so many previous movies based on comic books.

They did this one right. They got the characters right. Joker wasn't a campy kinda funny guy in the real comics. He was psychopathic. And they got it right. There is no comparison to Jack Nicholson's Joker. It's a totally different character. Batman isn't all heroic either. He wants to be a hero but in this movie sees what he must do to combat the criminals of Gotham. It plagues him the entire film. The only one who truly is a "good guy" in the classic sense is Jim Gordon (Lieutenant to Commissioner Gordon in this film).

If you have any inkling of a desire to see this movie, go see it. If you liked Batman Begins more than the campy versions of Batman that have been made before, go see it. Even if you've never read the comic book, go see it. You won't be disappointed.

I just got back from seeing it. I have to say, it's fantastic. There are several things I want to say about this film, so sit tight.

First, Heath Ledger was wonderful. Simply wonderful. His performance blew me away. I can't say enough good things about this part, how he played it, and it's a testament to a fine actor we lost too soon. I've been hearing Oscar rumors. I wouldn't be shocked if he got the nod at the end of the year.

Second, I was thrilled to see the demise of the current incarnation of the Bat-mobile. I HATED the new one. To see it smashed to bits put a smile on my face.

Third, to all the TCS parents out there. Please take a big dose of caution before you let any child under the age of 15 see this movie. For some reason unknown to me it was rated PG-13. It's violent. Really violent. Just to give you an example, in one of the first scenes with the Joker he says he's going to make a pencil disappear. He ends up grabbing a thug and impaling his head on it. Also, Two Face makes his debut. That means that one of our villains has half of his face burned off.

Last, if you are going to see this, and there's an IMAX theater in your area, GO THERE TO SEE IT. In fact, go see it on the biggest baddest screen you can find. The extra ticket price is worth it.

I must concur. We just got home from the theater - it was great. As a matter of fact, we are ALSO going to go to the IMAX version now. Not only will the action be amazing on the big, big screen, the sound should be amazing. I really liked the score!

We went to see it in IMAX Friday night. It was absolutely amazing!
We have been wanting to see this movie since the first trailers and teasers from last year! And thats why we splurged, paid the extra and drove 2 hours to go see it in IMAX.
It was soooo worth it!

Heath Ledger was a fantastic joker! And I am now more afraid of clowns...

92347372 thumbs up!

I will wait and see it on DVD, my sister went to see it yesterday and feels the same as you about it and Keith Ledger. I don't like going to the movies so I always wait till it goes to DVD.

I went last night with a friend and behind us was a family with a little boy, no older than 6! I cannot imaging bringing a child that young to a movie like this. I couldn't believe it!

I also have to say that it was by far, the BEST movie I've seen in a long time. Lots of action and it never bores you, thats for sure

There were a few younger children in the theater when I saw it as well.

DH and I were thinking that when the director took this one to the MPAA to be rated they kept saying, "So is it PG-13 now? No. Okay. How about now? No. Shoot. Now? No. Darn. Now? Borderline you say? Well, borderline works for us! Let's go!"

My SO, brother and I saw it last night at IMAX and I gotta agree with everyone on this. It was the single most amazing film I have seen. It by far surpassed Transformers in every aspect. The way Heath took his character and turned him into this monster with one sick mind, I gotta say I was actually rooting for the bad guy a bit. I literally had my mouth hanging open during much of the movie. Typically when they hype up movies the way they did this one it's not much to talk about but I truly believe this movie will go down as a classic.

But I did notice that there wasnt a lot of actual gore like some movies and also very little language. thats probably how it got the pg-13.

And also:
A Warner Bros. executive says the Batman sequel "The Dark Knight" has taken in $155.34 million to top "Spider-Man 3" for best opening weekend ever at the box office.

We went to the first showing Saturday morning (9:00), and sure enough there was a guy with his two sons there. The older one was probably between 9-11, so maybe it wouldn't be that bad depending on what they had talked about beforehand, etc. The little one couldn't have been older than 6-7. Of course, Dad's wearing a "#1 Dad" shirt. Hey, #1 Dad...maybe you should actually research the movie you're taking that little one to. He'll have nightmares for weeks about Joker!

I will say, I didn't think the violence was too bad. There was worse shown in LOTR in the battle scenes. Most of it was implied, except for TwoFace which was pretty graphic. The pencil thing happened so fast I didn't even really see it, the prison scene and the explosion were also implied and didn't actually show anything gory. And there wasn't a language issue either. I can completely see why it got a PG-13 rating, but I think parents who take their little kids to see it are idiots. It may be Batman, and it may be based on a comic, but this ain't the earlier Batman shows or films. It ain't for little kids!

I also must agree that this movie was fantastic. My husband and I are very big comic book fans and we loved this very dark take on Batman and his villains. There will always be a place in our hearts for the "campy" style Batman and Batman villains, but this very dark "Dark Knight" was simply stunning.

Heath Ledger did do a great performance, but more than that was the awesomely twisted script writing that gave him such a great version of Joker to play. I also think that Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent/Two Face was very, very, very good. The effects were awesome, but the ability to play both parts so very well had me thoroughly impressed.

The effects were AMAZING and the script writing is stellar. I saw this movie on opening day (Friday) and then went to the drive in to see it again on Saturday night.

We were BLOWN AWAY.

Go see this movie if you get a chance, but I agree with everyone else - Don't take your little kids. It's not gore that you should worry about, it is the twisted darkness that permeates this version of Gotham City.

Wow to the Dark Knight. So glad I went!

I saw it Friday night AND Saturday night! DBF and I just loved it. It definitely surpassed any movie I have seen in quite a while. It really gets a hold of you emotionally. It is sad that Heath Ledger is no longer alive to enjoy the success. He was brilliant.

I agree, this movie is NOT for children at all. Unfortunately I know there are a lot of families who won't realize this because "it's Batman" and will take their children.

Again, I loved it so much and just was awestruck by all of the genius that went into the movie. Twists and turns everywhere.
