Hi there, we're new to this forum and hope that we're welcome here. We should probably introduce ourselves right?

Well I'm Angel and I'm the human of the duo. I'm a 21 year old CCTV Surveillance Operative working and living in Sheffield. I'm a first time cat owner and very nervous about leaving Mitzy on his own. I'm not sure I know everything I need to and there's a fair bit to get used to and be nervous about. My biggest concern at the moment is that I also have two house rabbits. And right now I'm freaking out as they haven't met, and I've had to come to work. I closed them both in separate rooms, but still, my nerves are going mad because what if Mitzy can open doors? I never lock my buns in the hutch.

And this beautiful boy is Mitzy. He's an eight year old ginger and white tabby cat. I don't know what breed he is. My boyfriend thinks maybe some sort of cross? He is really very friendly and loves to be stroked! He even likes kisses! I only got him this Saturday so we've got a lot of getting used to things to do. I mean for example he managed to knock my CDs over so they had to be moved. He's very much an outdoor cat, so being confined to my house has got to be driving him nuts. But my boyfriend says I should wait two weeks before letting him out.

Also, I'm not sure if this will happen or not yet, but I want to get a camera hooked up in the house to monitor Mitzy. A catcam if you will. My boss says it's do able but it's just a case of doing it. It'd put my mind at ease being anle to just log in and check how he's doing. Or to just leave a window open on the computer to watch him all night. Just to see how he's doing and to put me at ease. I hope my boss remembers about this idea and actually comes around to put one in for me.

Thank you xocats ^_^ I suspect it's just my new mum nerves and all. I was on the phone to my boss earlier (about something work related but we're friends and got sidetracked after the problem was solved) and he says my cat can't get out of my room so long as I shut the door properly. He also suggested the cat cam to put my mind at ease. Anyway, I'm certainly going to start paying more attention to shutting doors and making sure they're shot...maybe even tying them shut just to be sure.

I'm going to introduce Mitzy and the buns to each other shortly. I'm sure that once I've introduced them they'll be fine having seen their personalities. It's just they've never met and I'm scared that if they do meet without me...something may happen. I may walk home and find them laid together but I also may come home to blood. But as I say, my boss assures me Mitzy can't get out.

I have posted a question about his litter tray though, and if I have any problems mixing them I'll certainly post. Thank you. I asked for help mixing them on another forum and because of the hate I ended up leaving the site completely. I'm sure I'll like it here if people are as nice as you ^_^

It's the rare cat that can open a door with a knob. But there are a few; check out YouTube!

Your cat is a cat. If you don't have papers, that's all he officially is. Nothing wrong with that; it covers about 99.9% of all the cats in the U.S!

I, personally, would try to discourage you from ever letting him outdoors, unless you live in a very unusual area. However, I see you are in the UK, where conditions are somewhat different from the U.S., as are pet-owning practices.

Cat Fancy magazine has an ad in it for the Cat Cam, so you can watch your cat at work.

Welcome to TCS!

I`m sure you`ll relax in time. Myabe put a latch on the door of the room the rabbits are in? My sister used to have house rabbits and cat`s but the rabbits went in their hutch when she was at work.

i`m sure you`ll find lots of help here!

Papers don't make a breed >_< My sisters Dog is an Alsation. He doesn't have papers but he is an Alsation. And he is pedegree. We just didn't want to get him registered because it cost too much. Your cats genetics make the breed not a bit of paper.

And personally I think it's rather cruel to keep a cat indoors all the time. They like to go out just as much as I do. And so in two weeks he will be out sun bathing in the garden.

cats are a bit different, breed-wise, from dogs, tho.
also, as mrblanche said, thinking on indoor/outdoor cats is different in the UK than here in the US. there are some places in the states where it's relatively safe for cats to have unrestricted access to the outdoors, & many cats do [my sister's, for example]. but many of us live in places where that would be unsafe for the cats. we do everything possible to make their indoor environment stimulating!
welcome to TCS! i'm sure your boy will do fine w/your rabbits, once they all get used to each other.

Aww your so cute!
I think you found a great site with lots of other cat lovers! Honeslty, I think your little darling should be fine on his own, but whatever you feel comfortable with!

As for the rabbits....with some work they should be just fine. You need to let your cats know that your rabbits are your "play things" and that Mitzy isn't allowed to play with them. He'll learn eventually! What I did to teach the kitties was to keep a water bottle around me and make loud noises. Now I let Kitty out of the cage and let her roam the house right along with the cats. Feel free to PM me!

I've never been to America so I don't know what it's like over there. But in the area I live it would be cruel to keep him indoors. Here let me describe it for you.
I live in a semi detached house converted into an upstaires and downstairs flat. The garden is actually two merged together and is shared by the three of us. The length of the garde is about 6 houses and the width is about four.
My front road is a dead end cobblestone hill that people only come up to park and at very slow speeds as it's really steep. My parents when visiting generally use the back road because my front is so un car friendly.
The back road starts out as a bus route, but by the time it gets anywhere near my house pretty much all the cars and all of the buss' have turned off. Across the road from me there's a HUGE park, which means the speed limit is very slow. And then all the roads circulating around that are generally closes and cresents and otherwise dead ends, appart from the one at the bottom of my front road. And they're all pretty empty except for people going to their houses. These are the kind of roads kids still play on safely. Driven along by animal lovers as pretty much everyone I've met has some kind of pet.
There are a fair few cats on my road, but they all stick to their own terratories. It's fairly obvious as to their bounderies as they'll escort you through them :p And no one has yet claimed my garden as terratory. The closest one stops at the next gate down, and with the size of our gardens you can imagine it's not bang outside my property.

Wow I love that pic of Enzo and kitty! I will PM you.
