I go to the gym several times per week and am so tired of lugging everything back and forth each day. It's heavy and awkward when you have to have it sitting on your lap in the car.

I was taking my own towel, but my back was killing me having to lug a large wet towel home on top of everything else, so I splurged and am spending $11.00 per month for unlmited towel service (2 towels per visit) for the month.

Everyday I ask if there is a "kit locker" available. A kit locker is a small locker, 1/4 the size of a regular locker that costs $3.00 per month more than the plain towel service, and it comes with towel service. It's yours until you give it up and you can leave your gym and shower stuff there instead of lugging it around.

I've been asking everyday for a few months if there is one. There never is because they are quite coveted. Today on the way home I didn't bother to stop and ask.

I got home and there was a message from a girl at the gym who knew I was looking, so she looked up my membership and called me to let me know that a kit locker had just come available today!

So starting tomorrow I can start leaving my shower shoes and all my shower stuff and track shoes there instead of lugging them back and forth. Instead of paying $11/month for towel service, I'll be paying $14/month for the locker and towel service.

I'm so happy that now all I have to take with me is my CD player, my swimsuit and a change of clothing. I can't believe how light my actual gym bag is now!

That was really thoughtful of that girl to call you and let you know!

That's crazy that your gym charges you for the towels/lockers though, they should include that as part of their service to the customers! We got both lockers and small towels included at no extra fee. (They don't have bath towels though, so you'd have to bring your own from home if you want a shower there. They just hand out small green ones you can use when you work out.) The lockers are free though- you can put your stuff in whatever open one you want and put your own lock on it. You just have to take the lock off at the end of the day when you're done with your work out.

It sure does!

At the beginning of May when I switched to a general membership after being in the cardiac rehab program which was paid for by my health insurance, there was a kit locker available. I wanted it but the girl who was doing my registration wouldn't assign it to me because I didn't have a void cheque to leave with her. I told her I was coming back the next day again and I would bring the check with me. She said she couldn't do that.

The next day when I went the lock was gone! And the girl that was there that day said there was no reason the girl from the day before couldn't have assigned me the locker. I had to pay cash for the first month of my membership. Had she given me the locker I would have had to pay cash for the first month use of it anyway. And subsequent months would be taken out of my bank account. So she didn't need a void cheque that instant to give me the locker. Personally I think she was keeping it for a friend.

When I arrive I swipe my membership card, then go downstairs to the locker desk and give them my membership card. They give me a key to a large locker that I can use while I'm there. That is included in the membership fee. At the end of the day when I'm done I give them the key back and they give me my membership card back.

If you pay for an additional service, you have a sticker placed on your card indicating the service and the expiry date. My service was "towel" so each day I got 2 bath towels in addition to my locker key.

The "kit locker" is a small locker that you can rent on a monthly basis in order to keep things there that you regularly use there such as curling irons, gym shoes, shampoo, shower gel, deodorant, girly things etc. The gym supplies hand held hair dryers so most don't bring those.

So now when I leave at the end of the day I'll just store my regular stuff in the small locker instead of lugging it home with me. I'll still get a full size locker each day when I go that I can put my purse, jacket and clothing in.

I got my prices wrong.

Today I found out that the monthly kit locker that comes with towel service is only $8.30 per month. I was paying over $11 per month just for towel service. So by having a kit locker I'm saving myself $3.00 per month and I'm getting more services!

My son works for a property management company. One of their clients is a very nice gym. For 10/month, he gets the monthy membership, unlimited towels, a permanent large locker, shampoo soap and spray deodorant, a personal trainer once a week, a nutritionist as needed and they wash his workout clothes. WOW! What a perk!

I wonder if they need an occupational health nurse!?

That is a great perk that he has.
