If they already haven't, make sure they have your cousin get tested for an autoimmune disease known as antiphospholipid syndrome. This is associated with anti-cardiolipin antibodies. This can cause miscarriages and spontaneous abortions in the women who have it. It would be one reason she is able to become pregnant but has difficulty going full term.

Sending lots of love your family's way.
Thank you for your kindness! (and everyone else!) it is very much appreciated.
I tried calling my aunt again tonight but once again wasn't able to get in touch so i really am not sure if she's "passed" the baby yet or not
I'll try again tomorrow to get ahold of her and find out. In the mean time my heart is just absolutely torn up over - i feel so bad for them, they are such wonderful parents- and that child was truely wanted and cherished even if it was early on.

I will definitely be sure to very gently mention that medical condition to them when it's appropriate. I'd never even heard of that before! (off to do a google search!). Would they be able to tell from the baby's autopsey whether or not it had that or would both parents need to get tested for it?

Here is a good link for the APS information

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antiphospholipid_syndrome

I only know about it because I have anti-cardiolipin antibodies. I haven't had a stroke event yet nor the pregnancy related events (never been pregnant) but I do have heart valve issues starting.

It can become a very serious condition in some people so it is important for your cousin to get tested. It is a simple blood test for the anti-cardiolipin antibodies.

I don't know if a necropsy would indicate this is the cause, it may.

Again I am so sorry for your family. This is just a horrific situation.

Im so sorry! I had something similar happen to me, thanksgiving of 2004 when I was pregnant with Jacob. Had a few issues (bleeding) ended up in the ER having an ultrasound, they couldn't pick up the heartbeat and decided a D&C was in order, Dr changed his mind at last minute and said he would wait for a few days just to make sure, the following week (which was hell for me) they found a heartbeat! I know not everyone can be that lucky, Im sending many Her way, and to your whole family and you!

Thank you so much for that information
I will definitely mention that to her when she's ready.

Sounds like Jacob is your little miracle baby!
I am so glad that he wound up being ok! You poor thing though- that must have been such a horrible week when you thought you had lost him

I do wish that my cousin could be that lucky and that the doctor had just made a mistake- but she has had several ultrasound to confirm it, little one is definitely gone. Hopefully though, this will all be over with soon and they can get some answers from the autopsey and be able to move on and grieve in a healthy way.

Oh that is just heartbreaking!

My best friend lost 2 little ones a couple years ago. She now has an 18 month old and is about 3 months along with her second. And I know from their other experiences they have had a tense past few months and they don't even tell anyone but family and close friends till she's farther along. I had another family friend miscarry last week too. It's just a horrible thing no one should experience! My heart goes out to them as well as my prayers!

Just wanted to update.

Christie had to have a D&C yesterday at 10:00am. They will be having an autopsey done on the baby. Christie is recovering well from the D&C and they are all just trying to hang in there and be supportive of one another. That's pretty much it for the update right now. We're all still upset and sad over the loss of this little one, but hopefully everyone will recover and mourn the loss of the baby in a healthy way.

I'm not sure what they're planning for the future, i don't even think they're sure yet. I think they're just going to take it one day at a time for now. Please continue to pray for them

That's probably a good idea, poor guys. It's important they pull together now as a familly. They must be devastated.
and prayers for them!
