Hello everybody!

Well I think one of my kittens is longhaired....but I have no idea who the father is and Im not sure if he really is....but im hoping! lol

Heres a picture....the one I think is longhaired is the one to the left and you can see that his hair is really long compared to the one to his right....
Can anyone give me their opinion on if you think he's longhaired? Thanks it would be greatly appreciated!!

It's hard to tell with that photo, but one way I could tell with Elsa's litter of 8 - two of them turned out to be longhaired, and they both looked a lot more "scruffy" than the others, especially around the neck.

Well i just went down and sat with them for a while....

And what I noticed was he has very thick hair around the back of his neck...and fine, long hair on the back of his ears, on the side of his face, and it looks like his tail (towards his body) is pretty thick...and theres also long, very fine hair on his legs.

Some of the other kittens are like this too....
Do you think this is a sign that he might be long haired??

I saw this and tried to look it up but I am at a loss. I don't think you can tell. I was wondering about mine too. I had a med hair once and I loved brushing him.
Do you have any better photos? It is hard to tell.

It is very hard to make anything out in that picture but they all look short haired to me. It is probably just kitten fluff and they usually lose that.

I don't understand. If they are from the same litter I do not see how one can be longhaired if the others are not. I would say from your later photos that it is not a longhaired.

longhair is a recessive trait.

I can't really explain but it certainly is possible. In my 2 foster kitten litters there was always a number of longhairs and a number of shorthairs. From your pic I would say it is a shorthair. The fur looks rougher than one usually is IMO Piper in my sig is a longhair.

Our Callie had kittens back at the end of April, four of them, and they were all shorthair except one.. at first I didn't think she was, but now she's about 11 weeks, and yes, she is definitely a longhair. I decided to keep her, and I named her Maya.

As for your picture, it's hard to tell. You could always wait a while and try to get a better picture if you're not sure.

My brother cat had 4 kittens last year and I took Oreo. She has shorter fur and her 2 Sisters have long fur. Her brother has short fur. The Mom is a Russian Blue Mix with short fur. The father has short fur with a strange shapped face.
