I just want to thank you all, for the helpful posts you have written--and also this entire site, for all the info I have found here! My little kitty Spike
is SUCH a pistol!! I have had a number of cats/kittens in the past, but none quite like him!! I have found so many things that I was doing, and did not realize I was re-inforcing the behavior patterns! So, new leaf, and he IS responding well, so far! --And I don't mean that I was cruel or ANYTHING close to that at all!!! I just would catch him doing normal mischievious Kitty things and my reaction would be, to run and stop him--or yell, "No!" He was a teeny tiny 4 week old abandoned kitten when I found him, and is 6 months old now. But my poor little Spikey! He was, at 4 weeks old, having to defend himself from the BIG guy feral cats that lived where he did! So, I believe he has a different "point of reference" than a kitten who was born inside a house, with a family that loved it from day one... He tends to get very suspicious and gets into that "fight and flight" attitude very easily... So, with all the tips I have found here--the past few days have been SOOOO much better!! But he has been SO much better--and I have you all to thank!

Missy if you visit our feral forum and start reading the posts there, you will find a lot of help in dealing with Spike, if you haven't been there already...
I am glad you have reached this understanding with your kitty. And you are right, it is a whole different mind-set to a kitten who has been abandoned, versus one brought up underfoot and with love.
