Statement as of 5:00 am PDT on July 7, 2008

... Very hot temperatures and poor air quality expected the next few
days over northern California...

Strong high pressure will continue to build over the region and
will remain in place until the end of the week. Winds will be
light in most areas which will result in the smoke from area
fires settling into the Sacramento and northern San Joaquin
valleys during the next several days.

People are advised to limit outdoor activities and prolonged
exposure to the smoky air... especially those with respiratory
conditions... older adults and Young children. People with health
conditions that could be aggravated by the smoke and are concerned
about their exposure should try to avoid the smoke this week.

The strong high pressure may also bring the warmest temperatures so
far this year. While there is some uncertainty as to how warm it
will get due to smoke cover... record high temperatures will be
possible today through Wednesday. High temperatures are expected to
exceed the century mark in the valleys... with an excess of 110
degrees possible in the northern Sacramento Valley. In the
mountains... temperatures as warm as 90 degrees are possible up to
5000 feet. Very warm overnight temperatures are also
possible... mainly tonight and Tuesday night... especially in the
foothills east of Sacramento. Foothill communities such as
Auburn... Placerville... Grass Valley... Paradise and Jackson may have
overnight lows that remain in the lower to mid 80s.

Stay indoors as much as possible during the peak heating of the
day. If you have to work or if you plan on any outdoor recreational
activities... drink plenty of water... wear light colored clothing
and take frequent breaks from the sun. Heat can affect anyone.
However... children... the elderly... people with medical conditions
and those engaged in strenuous outdoor activities will be the ones
most impacted by the hot weather.
They are saying the Heat Index will be 109 at Night and we might hit 114 or higher here. Sac is always a little cooler then us.Tomorrow: A mainly sunny sky. Record high temperatures expected. High 111F. Winds NW at 10 to 15 mph.
Tomorrow night: A mostly clear sky. Warm. Low 76F. Winds NNW at 10 to 15 mph.
Wednesday: Mainly sunny. Highs 109 to 113F and lows in the upper 70s.
Thursday: Sunshine. Highs 110 to 114F and lows in the low 70s.
