My brother had a pregnant stray dumped on him, so he took her in and she had 5 healthy kittens. They were kept in a little building next to the house, which was set up so that the kittens couldn't get out, but the mama cat could jump up to a shelf and go in and out.

When the kittens were almost 7 weeks old, they started disappearing, one by one. Every few days another one would be gone. Now they are all gone. There are dogs in the yard that keep the wild animals away, and it doesn't appear that anything got in the building anyways. Everything was in its place, except the kittens.

Is it possible that the mama cat carried them off as she was weaning them, and just abandoned them?

She possibly took them out to teach them how to hunt. Only the kittens turned into the prey.

Oh how sad if that happened.
Maybe she will bring them back? But I have heard of mothers doing this.
