I declared bankruptcy on November 30, 2007. Given my debt load, my fixed income and no return to work date, it was the only thing I could do. It wasn't an easy step to take, but I can't tell you what a relief I felt once I made that decision!

As part of the process I had to attend 2 credit counselling sessions of which both were a huge joke. I went there, was given a few papers to read while the women left her office. She came back and asked if I had any questions. I said no. She had me sign a paper saying I attended a credit counselling session.
Complete waste of my time even going there for those 2 occasions because I didn't learn anything that I didn't already know.

Also, as part of the process I've had to keep a monthly statement of income and expenses and submit it by the 7th of each month. It's PITA to do because I'm so sick of having to account everything in my life to someone. If it's not the bankruptcy trustee about my finances, it's my long term disability and health care liason. I so want my life back

Anyway, I just finished up my June statement. I have to do one for July and one for August and then I'm done! I still plan on keeping track of my expenses after that, but the results will no longer be anyone's business but my own!

So far I haven't heard if I will have to go to court to get a discharge from the bankruptcy. If I don't have to, I'm automatically discharged at midnight August 31, 2008.
If I have to go to court my discharge may be postponed and I may have to pay more money to the trustee before I am discharged. How much more would depend on the Judge's ruling.

My computer was financed by a local company here. They know about my bankruptcy but haven't as yet filed a claim. So it looks like they probably won't and that I'll be able to keep my computer. You would think that if they wanted it back they would have done something months ago instead of letting me keep it and use it and having it depreciate even more in value over a period of 9 months. The whole contract was kind of shadey in retrospect, so I don't really think they had all of their ducks in a row on this.

I had a few periferals financed with Dell, and while they've filed a claim and have contacted me numerous times, they haven't taken any steps to take back the equipment. They know that I have no intention of continuing the contract with them. So again, not sure what is happening there.

I'm so looking forward to having some of my privacy back again. I just feel like I have no control over anything right now. And I really don't.

That's great that you're so close to the end!

Before long, this chapter of your life will be closed, and you can open a new one. I hope better times are ahead!

Chances are if you've had the PC for awhile and made a lot of payments, they've already recouped their money, and used hardware is very limited in the amount of money they could sell it for.

Sometimes it's just more hassle to get the PC back and they just write it off.
