That's so cool you have a song after your town!

But not my little smudge on the map, oh no!
It's actually such a forgotten corner of a really packed place that it's not even technically a town! Officially, I live in an "unincorporated area".

Back in the 1800s when my little neck of the woods was growing very quickly, I'm sure they had old folk tunes they'd sing about my neighboring towns, but not the one I'm in. It was kind of like the "back yard" to the bigger cities around it. Now, it's huge (60,000+ people!), but still not considered a town or city or anything, and still forgotten even by the people that live a stone's throw away! Kinda nice, actually.

Unless there's one I don't know of... Which is entirely possible!

From what I have read, Stompin' Tom actually picked tobacco in Tillsonburg and he wrote it after that. Not sure if that is actually true though.

Haha, this little town? People who live right around it ask where I'm talking about when I tell them where I live..

no... there's a movie that mentions the name of the town where i went to school - & another that was made there.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show - Janet & Brad were from Denton. [don't think it was Texas, tho
]
Necessary Roughness was filmed in & around Denton - the stadium where the game is played is the UNT stadium. i went to some of the filming & sat in the stands as an extra! the green uniforms the cast wore are the UNT uniforms... the purple & gold ones were the Denton High School uniforms, where i went to high school.

I'm sure there are other songs about Denver, but the one I remember is "She's Only 17" by the cr@ptacular 80s hair band, Winger. Kip was from Arvada. From what I understand he was a jerk in high school too.
That song is actually about Bangles, which was THE bar in the 80s for live music. Unfortunately it's been torn down. Guess the strip club and porn shop next door wanted to expand or something. Glenwood never liked Bangles (or the next incarnatio, Paradise...same club, same format, different name), but Shotgun Willies (strip joint) and the porn store are just A-OK.

There's no place like home
My home town was Chicago. I think there were a couple songs written about it over the years. My current town is a suburb of Kansas City, which also has a pretty famous song written about it. My town was talked about a lot in the book "What's the Matter with Kansas?" and I still moved here after reading the book.

And for Kansas City, you can't forget "Kansas City" from Oklahoma!

Ev'rythin's up to date in Kansas City
They've gone about as fur as they c'n go!
They went and built a skyscraper seven stories high,
About as high as a buildin' orta grow.

Sorry, theater gal here.

There is one about my town, or at least named for my town and something that happens here. But I kind of like not just announcing where I live. Helps when it comes time for the Secret Santa exchange!
