Quite traumatised by something I saw today

I was volunteering at the shelter today in the front office, and one of the vet techs brought past a sweet little orange kitten wrapped in a blanket. I thought he said the kitten had a cut on his leg or something like that.

He brought the kitten back by me a little later and asked if I wanted to take a look at him. I said sure, he pulled back the blanket, and the kittens leg was missing

I don't just mean missing, I mean the wound was open - there was bone and muscle and everything hanging out.

It is probably the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. The poor little kitten was just looking up at me with drugged out eyes
They said he probably crawled up into a running car, and got his arm caught in the fan belt. I assume it must have just come in, I have no idea when he's booked in for surgery to close it up. It's something that will stay with me for a long time.

Oh, poor baby!
I can imagine how you feel after seeing that, it would stick with me for a long time, and I definitely wouldn't want it to. I hope he'll be okay.

That's something you'll never forget.

To this day, I can vividly see the pained half glazed over look at the face of the burned kitten the people finally brought us 2 days after being burned. I can still smell burnt flesh when I think about it.

Over the river and through the woods...
Sweetie, I'm so sorry you had to see that. At least the person that found him cared enough to bring him in to see if anything can be done to help him. I've seen some bad wounds on the barn cats and wild animals but I've never seen anything like that and I pray I never will.

Is there any chance he can be seen soon so infection doesn't spread?

Many vibes going out to the kitty and to you

I know nothing is going to erase this out of your mind, but try to take comfort in the fact that the kitty is with people who care and will try to make him as comfortable as possible after such a devastating accident.

Please let us know how he's doing.

I don't know how he is - I volunteer at the shelter, I have nothing to do with their actual care. I'll be popping into the shelter tomorrow morning to get a carrier to transport some kittens I'm collecting, so may know more then.

Oh, that poor little kitty. My prayer is that he heals quickly and lives as full of a life as my Tripod. Tripod was born with 3 legs (but 2 of 3 feet are not "normal"). I understand that losing a leg is different from being born that way, but hope and pray that he adjusts well.
