I'm afraid I don't know what you're referring to when you say a `free pass' Cindy - what free pass?
And I certainly am not saying that all victims of abuse end up to be abusers. They certainly don't.
You can be sure, though, that nearly all abusers were at some time themselves victims of abuse.
You keep saying these women `allowed' their children to be treated in this way. I ask you - how do you know what would have happened to them if they didn't? How do you know there was any such choice in it at all? Do you think they were asked? Do you think they were given a choice? What would their alternative have been?
You must read about this sect more Cindy. It's astonishing. I first heard of them many years ago and have been keeping an interested eye on them every since. I've read a lot about their lives and conditions and the type of compounds they live in.
These women have no choice in anything. There is danger and violence and a lot of really dark stuff that goes on in these places that we cannot have an idea of just by what is on the news.
These mothers do have a responsibility to keep their children safe - and yes in OUR view and in OUR eyes they haven't because we come from a vastly different type of world.
But let's just hypothesise for a minute here. What if you, one day, had police come to your door and take away your children and tell you that you had abused them and everything you had done in raising them was not only wrong, but illegal and immoral. Would you not be astonished? Would you not cling to your way for dear life? Would you not be confused and frightened? After all, what you have done is normal, it's how you were raised, you feel that you have done the best for your children and you've done it according to all you know.
That is what has happened with these women. Cindy, they don't KNOW any different. They don't KNOW any better. To them, the way they live is just as normal and right as they way you live is to you. You had the advantage of a normal moral compass and access to the outside world. These women have never had that.
We all live our lives based upon the moral code with which we were raised. You are expecting them to have lived their lives based on the moral code with which YOU were raised. That is simply impossible.
And that's what I mean when I say that these women should not be judged by people like us because we have no idea what it is like to be born and raised into the type of lives that they have been. We were born and raised into our type of lives, and that seems perfectly natural and normal to us. Why is it such a stretch to believe that everything they went through seems perfectly natural and normal to them?
Like I said earlier, nobody is born knowing what right and wrong is. We are taught this from the very earliest days of our lives, and what we are taught continues to shape us until the day we die. To accuse these women of being accessories of a crime they did not even know was being committed is being too harsh and is judging them by the standards of a world they have been removed from and ignorant of since birth.
