You have well-mannered birds! We had a parrot in our family for around 80 years (!) who definitely knew what he was saying, and would sit and grumble "Go to
!" when he was in a bad mood.

My husband temporarily brought a cockatoo home when his workplace was being renovated, and within a week the bird was saying, "No, Jamie, no!" and "Bad cat!"

The funniest thing is that the cockatoo still says it when he sees my husband at work.

You might have to worry if Butzie starts imitating the parakeets!

Everyone's talking cat stories are soo cute I spent a good fifteen minutes laughin over my mental images of your various kitties talking!

Cassie didn't articulate any words, but when I come home she'd greet me at the door with a thousand and one questions that sounded like "hrrrow? rrrrow? mrrrow? hhrrrrrrrow?" Each "word" ended with a question mark so it sounded like "Why are you late? What did you do today? Did you bring me anything?" and she would just go on and on till I gave her sufficient reasons why I was home late and yet didn't have a treat for her

Her son Wukong would "quarrel" with me when I lifted him off the coffeetable he's not supposed to be on. I'd lift him down and tell him "No, Wukong" and he'd sit and go "ngggooooooooo" sounding a lot like "noooooo"!

My Seldon says Mama. He calls me to look for me and I answer and he comes.
I call treats tweety tweets(they are my babies ok) and Mary will say weet weet. They also use inflections when asking me a question or making a demand.

I know they can learn to do odd things, because for some reason when Gracie gets up from one of her thousands of daily naps the fur on the top of her head is always a mess.
Every day I'd say "Gracie, your hair is messy" and then take my hand and smooth out the fur on the top of her head.
Now all I have to do is say "Gracie, is your hair messy?" and she takes her little paw and rubs it over her head.
I swear on a stack of bibles that I'm not making that up, she really does it
So you know that you have to video tape this for us now, right? Otherwise we won't believe you.

I found the video of the Cat saying "momma". The first cat on the video says, "hello" and the second one says, "momma". Just to show you that you are not nuts.

Well, it was the other way around or something like that. I always tell Butzie that she is a good girl. Of course, the birds are male so they say good boy. Until today, when I heard Sandy Koufax say "Good girl!"

Well, it is actually that my budgie (parakeet) Sandy Koufax, has started saying "Good girl" as well as "good boy" because he has heard me tell Butzie that she is a good girl. Sandy is a male budgie.

Maybe Sandy is saying this because when Butzie does not reach for the birds when they fly over her (instinctive response) I tell her that she is a good girl. Sandy likes good kitties that don't attack him.
Either that or I have the first budgie who is gender confused.

Ahh, see now Pumpkin would go after a bird. The birds outside drive him batty, it's hilarious! The only experience I've ever had was with some sort of parrot growing up and he was MEAN and then Sky Blue I think was a parakeet and was in my son's Kinder room and is the sweetest bird!

My Husband and I taught Forrest to say Mom and Momma. When he starts to make his howling "mewowmmm" sound we just keep repeating "Mom" similar in tone to his and he repeats Mom and Momma after us. He almost always cries "Mom" now. When I was young I had a cat that would try to imitate human words too. I've only seen it in really vocal cats but maybe all cats have the ability to do it.

It can get a bit annoying when Lilly will not play with him and he walks around sulking calling Mom....MOM...MOMMMMA.

They for sure know how to get our attention. Kitty makes a certain sound that I know is ment just for me. If I had kids around, she'd pick up on the mama thing too

I was in the shower when I heard one of my kids say "mom?" It was pretty loud and clear and I was so annoyed that they were bothering me in the shower and I stuck my head out and yelled "WHAT" and there was my Balinese saying "mom?"

Well, I am surprised Butzie doesn't talk given what you all have written because all of my budgies talk "people talk." I had, until last year, 4 budgies, the oldest being my favorite, Vida Blue, who died first. He immediately picked up on lots of phrases that I said, including the usual, "Pretty birdie, what a good budgie, yeah (with a NY accent, no less), I love you, etc. The others all picked up all the phrases and talk with each other using them. I call it "flock talk."
Sandy Koufax is actually the smartest talker. I would always come in and ask the birds, "How are you?" Sandy picked it up, so I said in response, I am fine thank you, how are you. I came in one day and I said how are you and Sandy said "I'm fine thank you, how are you?" Thought I was gonna you know what in my pants.
So, I am waiting for Butzie to say something to me. I just hope it is not "What a good budgie!"
I get so sad when I read an old resurrected thread, because chances are there will be a post or 2 from a member who is no longer with us.

RIP Butzie :(

What a funny story, thanks for sharing!

I am new to this site. I didn't notice the past date. I hope I didn't offend anyone.
Welcome to TCS. It's fine to revive an old thread. :wavey:

My Near is very vocal...he calls me Maw, Momma and recently my youngest Kage who is 8 months started calling me Maw.  Cats have a wide rage sounds are are vocally unique, never be surprised what they can do...after all...they are cats!  The coolest thing Near does is at night when it's time for bed, he jumps up, trills softly and snuggles down on my chest with a soft chirp.  That means he says it's time for bed!  People who do not own felines don't know what they are missing....I find them the most empathic and loving companion ever!
