There is a family of woodchucks (groundhogs) living along the back lot line at my mom's house. It's very wooded back there and provides food and cover for all kinds of wildlife.

Well, I am looking out the kitchen window and I see one of the trees shaking... and there ... about 6 feet up is one of the WCs... munching away on mulberry leaves... I snapped this pic. I think this is the mama... she's a little smaller than Pops!

I went out to get a better pic but she took off and I heard her scolding me rather loudly from the underbrush!!!!

I have never seen babies.. I am just assuming b/c from what I read, they don't travel too far from their burrows... and I have seen two- again I assume male and female.. one is bigger than the other.

Yeah, she was ripping leaves off and stuffing herself... she may have been eating berries, too. Some of them were ripe.

This evening, our woodchuck neighbors came out for a little summer dinner.... And I can confirm that there is at least one baby! He(she) and momma moved too fast for me to get a pic.

Then the chuck that I think is the daddy was up in the tree again, stuffing his face with leaves.

He's a big'un... I would guess 20 lbs if he is an ounce!
