They're being curious.
In my case whenever I am in the bathroom or bedroom, my cats wait for me by the door until I come out.
I don't think they like mom taking too long inside though.

Mecha runs and hides when Aaron and I fight or even get noisy when we're joking (she hates loud noise / loud people / fighting)
but she will sit and wait at doors if you go into another room and shut the door on her
