You can go online and search for apartments. I find that the best way is to look at newspapers. Look at your local newspapers, and just ask around. Your friends might find places for rent when they are driving around. Just have them jot down the telephone number and you can call and find out more.

Good luck with your search.

Part of your concern seems to involve finding an apartment that "accepts" pets.

In Ontario, we have legislation called the "Residential Tenancies Act." It outlines basic rules/regulations regarding all residential rental properties in Ontario. Most still sign leases that go above and beyond this basic legislation, but the Act always takes precedence and nothing in the lease that goes against the legislation will stand legally.

One of the common areas this is found is pets. Many landlords/managers place anti-pet clauses in their lease. These have no legal backing. A landlord cannot prohibit a tenant from having a pet and cannot evict a tenant if they find out they have a pet (unless it is a dangerous breed, is causing substantial damage, or is disturbing other tenants).

Every province/state has it's own legislation, so I'd recommend checking that out to see if it is similar where you live.

Keep in mind that before you are a tenant (ie. during the application process, while searching), there's nothing wrong with a landlord stating that they would prefer no pets. They probably can even refuse to rent to you because you own a pet.

I'm fortunate to have a landlord who doesn't mind pets...but if I were ever looking for new accommodations, I would just roll my eyes at any anti-pet clause and move on.

Try the Pound. Ours lists Apartments that take Pets. How many pets do you have. We made a deal when we moved here to have 4. We used rent.net,move.net and some others.

Out of curiosity, what did you end up doing?

I actually, search on-line and looked at local newspaper. I found a place near my school, kinda expensive, but it has two rooms ( perfect, my cats love space, and running all over the place)
