Update: The vet's opinion is that his cyst is possibly apt and vulnerable to a sinus infection. He gave a very heavy duty antibiotic injection, we upped the prednisilone from half a pill a day to two pills twice a day, and he gave me antibiotic by the name of Baytril to give once daily as well.

The vet's opinion is not to give up yet till we see if his condition improves and he can still enjoy some more time. We are giving him a week and I have an appointment set up for next Friday afternoon. This week will determine if he wants to fight or if he wants to pass on. If he does not improve, the vet thinks it may be at the point where we've done all we can. But the least we can do is give him a chance this week and do all we can and we will see how it goes.

He laid in the sun today and basked next to me. I have taken some pictures and video that I will upload shortly for you to see. His swelling is up and the vet said we can't do anything for the cyst at this point besides the meds so you will see his face is slightly swollen but not terrible..just not as good as when he first came here and improved.

Whatever is meant to happen will happen and I feel confident that this week will leave us with no doubts about what the right thing to do is.

He is resting now and hopefully the strong antibiotic injection will give him a little kick to his immune system and he'll perk up.

Thank you all for your thoughts. I feel better that it will be Tigger's decision and not solely mind with not much information. Let's see how it goes...

anyway, the rest of your post i understand. i can turn my home into a kitty intensive unit though as i am home all day on disability and spend all my time with my rescues.

anyway, i appreciate the parts you said that i agree with and sharing your story. we are all uniquely different and our situations are uniquely different. after all i've done to rehabilitate animals, i just get frustrated when i am venting looking for support and instead i get told what to do. in no way did i ever ask anyone's opinion and i notice on many forums there are people that think they are "holier than thou" and there assumptions are right.

everyone who gave support like i needed i sincerely thank you.

I know what you mean by being judged. It happened to me before Yoshi was Pts. I went as long as I could before he was Pts. He wouldnt eat at all and was 5.2 pounds down from almost 15. Two weeks before je was pts he was 7.5 pounds. You are doing it the right way.

i think you are doing the right thing by giving the tablets a go, I did that with the last 3 of mine I have lost, it was a case of if they respond, then they will be fine, if not, it is their time. if it doesnt' work, at least you will know you have tried everything you can, and that is all we can do.

I just went through this with Mia. She went from 15 to 6 pounds since January. We tried to help her with prednisone and b12 injections and frequent vet visits and frequent feedings. There just comes a day when you know their quality of life is not good and even though it hurts like heck you know you are doing what is best for them.

i had to have my lurcher pts on valentines day. he would have been 14 in june. he had systematically lost almost all the use in his back legs over the previous 18 months. his last week saw me having to support his back end to get him in from the garden. my mum was under the opinion that he should have been pts sooner but then she was only seeing him infrequently.

i know on that final day that leo would have gone on for longer. the fire was still alight in his eyes but his body had finally let him down. he had a lovely morning, eating loads and having tons of tearful cuddles from me.

i feel so much for you as it is the hardest decision to make but one you will make unselfishly for your precious tigger.

everyone here is 100% supportive of you as your love and concern for tigger is without question.

for you and tigger at this difficult time.

That's great news! I just caught this thread. Here's vibes for continued effectiveness of meds for Tigger and here's vibes for you as well

I know you're going through a real tough time now, but at the same time you now have a somewhat long period of time to love on him, make him comfy, spend lots of time holding him and talking to him, giving him his favourite treats and so on... so in a way, I hope you see this as a blessing and make the most of your time with Tigger
I wasn't as "lucky" with my Wukong, he had to be PTS within 1 week of being diagnosed with terminal stage FIP... But its okay, he's over the RB free from ill health now

Oh btw, I do believe that Tigger will let you know if its time. Wukong was so at peace during those few days, its strange saying it now, but it felt as though he was telling me he was ready to go. Darn he was only 11 months old.. Wish I had more time with him.

SO glad to hear he is responding to the meds!
WHatever decision you make, only YOU can know your cat, and when, if that times comes, to say goodbye.
I let one of my cats pass on naturally, it was one of the hardest things I have ever done. She was (we guess) 19/20 yrs old. A grey tabby named MaoMao, she was the best cat ever. She just stared slowing down, gradually lost interest in food, lost a great deal of weight, her clock was just running out. She was not in pain, still got around a bit even in her last days, gave us (me nd my ex) love and never gave me that sign to end it. She died peacefully in her sleep, got up off the couch and went into the bedroom where I had made a nice comfy spot for her and passed on.
I got some flack for not putting her down, but I knew my cat, and thats the way she wanted to go, and for those who said I made her suffer (which I did NOT) I just ignored.

I have been there too, and it's never an easy thing.

I'm happy to hear that Tigger's responding to his meds, and I hope you have some more time with him. When his time comes, you will know.

I hope his meds continue to work for him!

i just got tears in my eyes from all your kind words, support, and sharing your own personal stories. you are all WONDERFUL who responded.
tigger has been venturing out to the living room (not a normal thing) and laying in the sun all day with his face up..looks like he's smiling almost

and of course he is still very cuddly, i hardly hear him have a fit anymore..just a few sneezes here and there, and the swelling has totally gone down. he is very vocal and demanding too..actually even being a pest (i say that in a loving way..LOL)...i always take it as a good sign when one of the "kids" is being a brat because they must feel good..LOL. i'd rather he be a pest than sick

he has his recheck today to see how he responded..will let you know what the vet says and if we need to keep continuing the antibiotics. he weighed in at a WHOPPING 14 lbs. (twice the size of his sister with hyperthyroid) and the vet said his prednisone dose was very low considering his weight so i think we'll stick to one pill twice a day probably as far as that goes. my boyfriend gave me a blank check (they know us there and trust me, my friend is one of the techs) and said to just get whatever else he needs. i'm so lucky to have his support...and yours too! bless
