I have a very anxious kitty that I have had issues with for about a year now. Every time you come in the room she'll scury away, hide under anything possible. She has a lot of issues that I have been trying to work on but nothing has seemed to work.

I took her to the vet and they gave me medication for this issue. I have to give her a half a pill every 12 hours.

Here is the issue.... I can't touch her, go near her, basically be in the same room with her without her being scared and leaving. So I have been having issues administering these pills

I have tried crushing them and putting them on wet food- she apparently doesn't like wet food and won't eat it. I even gave her wet food without medication on it and she didn't eat the food.

I got pill poppers she took them like that for 2 days and then today she refuses. Even ate the treat around the pill and left the pill.

I cannot grab her, wrap her with a towel anything.

Any other suggestions??? I would really appreciate them. I want my poor kitty to feel better and I'm really hoping this medication will work, but I can't get her to take it.

Thanks!!!

Did she not used to be this way?

How quickly does the medication work? Does it take many doses before there is affect?

Have you tried pill pockets? Hollow treats that you put pills in. Many people pill cats this way, they swallow the treat with the pill inside.

that's what the OP meant by "pill poppers".
well, if she won't do the pill pockets, you're going to have to be in the same room w/her to administer the meds.
you might try using a pill popper - but i personally prefer buttering the pill & using my fingers.

Even though Fancy Feast isn't the greatest food, you might want to give it a try. Most of my cats go crazy for the grilled variety.

Pansy is like that. I trick him into getting close by playing with a tail, or his favorite pipe cleaner and then I grab him. You have to make sure you get him the first time cause you won't get another chance. I give him cosquine which I dissolve in a tbsp of water and then syringe it into the side of his mouth. He is fine with syringing, I give him water this way too, if he appears to be having a urinary problem. He hates getting pills but shoving it in is the only way. fortunately once I have him on my lap, in a cradle type hold, he doesn't struggle too much, he is paralyzed with fear. I don't think I could do this with Spike, he will fight me tooth and nail, I am sure. Fang rolls over on his back to be pilled. All I have to do is say, Fang, Pill. and he comes over and rolls over at my feet.
go figure

PS, makke sure you have the pill out, and you are all set before you grab. It is difficult to open the bottle with a struggling cat.

I know exactly what you're going through. My cat came from a ferel mother. I had to get one of those rescue teams to help me get the little family and spay and neuter them. Thet wewe 4 months old and their mama taught them well not to trust people. I kept 2 of them. One needed to have medication, I tried everything, it wasn't happening, until I crushed his pill into tuna fish and the juice from it. Its the only time I will give him people tuna fish just to give him his pill. He was afraid of me but he loved it. Sardines work also, anything that he would really like to eat. Give it just for the pill because you don't want him to get tired of it. Good luck.

What medication is it, and is it available in a liquid? I have a much easier time giving liquid meds to my own cats than pills.

And if that's not possible, perhaps a pharmacy can compound it into a transdermal gel that you'd rub on the inside of her ears. You'll still need to catch her, but most cats will tolerate ear scritchies much better than someone jamming or squirting something down their throat.

i usually take the cat & the buttered pill into the bathroom & close the door. then i lay the pill on the counter. then i grab the cat & administer the pill.

there's no furniture to hide under in the bathroom!
