I know pigeon overpopulation can be a problem, but there are better ways of controlling it than shooting or poisoning them. Some cities have "pigeon towers", and subsitute wooden eggs for the real ones. Others try to make it as attractive as possible for birds of prey that can keep down the numer of pigeons naturally.
Wimbledon was breaking the law.
There is a really great book about pigeons available, published about a year ago. I've heard the author on NPR a couple of times. He says that, far from being "rats with wings," pigeons are one of the best success stories in the bird world.
that IS a problem, but one that raises the Question ' How to get rid of the birds to keep them from dive bombing players?'
Im all for trying diff things to ward them off, but if you cant keep them out, what then? They DO carry disease, and no one wants to be diving out of the way of bird pooo to watch a sports match.
I understand that shooting them in front of people is not a vaild option, but PETA dosent seem to have a effictive alternative to the shootings. If they so care about the welfare of these winged rats, then they should come up with a way to get them AWAY from the courts that THEY deem safe. If they cant, then it needs to be taken into others hands.
I sorry, but if its a pigeon or me, that winged rat is going, lol. I cant stand them! they are a HUGE nussance here too, and poo on my car EVERYTIME i go into a grocery store or eatery. I long to live in the county again where the hawks and such keep them away, lol
