self cleaning boxes (and other questions)

what do you think of these, are they worth the money? Do you still need multiple boxes?

I currently have 1 box (that 2 cats share), it is a jumbo buddah dome (it is round and it has little stairs that go in, to reduce tracking). It is a pain to clean because of it's weird shape and it really does not reduce tracking. They have had no problems sharing.

Could I use a large steralite tub for the 2 of them?

What about crystal cat litter? I have heard some really great things about it. My cats are young yet (both under a year) so I do not think switching anything (slowly) would be a problem (they have their claws in case that matters).

I do not recommend the self cleaning boxes for a few reasons:
Not uncommon for cats to hang their butts over the sides because of their size (the boxes aren't big enough)
I find them harder to clean because stuff gets stuck in the tines
Some are covered, and I don't recommend covered boxes (reasons listed in another thread)
Some cats are frightened by the noise
They can be dangerous for kittens.
