Jordan is going this afternoon to have a 6 month check up on his calcium levels. They are also going to check his liver & kidney function because he is still on 5mg of pred/day. I'm praying that his calcium levels will be low enough to drop his dose. He has been doing so good. He's still more mellow than he used to be, but he no longer lays in the corner after he eats. Now he sits with isaac & give him a bath. He's back to knocking the lid off the garbage can when he wants my attention. So please send vibes for his blood levels to match his improved attitude.

Thanks guys. I won't know until tomorrow how the blood values turn out, but his weight is down from 12.2 to 11.3 since January. I'm not sure what that means. He is eating just fine, 3oz of wet in the morning and another 3oz of wet at night. He's playing with the other cats, knocking the lid off the garbage can. He seems to feel really good, so I don't know why he would have lost weight? I guess I have to wait until tomorrow.

Is he just getting the medleys? I know of another person whose cats lost weight on FF Medleys (canned only). I remember hearing that they are lower calorie content than the regular FF. So maybe just an extra can per day would help?

that the results are good.

He's getting the medleys in the morning, & now he's getting friskies at night. For a while he was getting only the medleys, so maybe that is it. I will try not to worry too much. Given that he has been on pred for almost a year, I worry he is having complications or worse yet that he does have cancer and they just haven't found it yet.

Well the news was not as good as I had hoped. His blood calcium is still slightly elevated, but at least the rest of his values fell in the normal range. The vet was not too concerned about his weight loss, but said to monitor it. Of coarse the weight loss could mean that he does have lymphoma, but the vet thought it would be very strange for him to still be alive if he did. He said that unless something changes I can wait another 6 months before taking him back. When I asked about amount of food, he said that I should not restrict him and that if he wants to eat more food I should let him. Some days I will not be able to feed him three meals, but I will do my best to make sure he eats 3x a day whenever possible. I will also try to make time to get to the pet store and buy him some better food in the hopes that he will eat it. He doesn't always want the healthy stuff, especially since he's been spoiled with the junk food.

I wanted to add a funny story from the other night. So he did good with the vet techs. I guess he only hissed a couple of times. I think they are learning that less restraint is better with him. So they brought him back out & set his carrier on the ground. A guy came in with a black lab & the dog started walking towards his carrier. I said, oh you don't want to mess with that kitty. Thinking the guy would get the hint. Well the dog stuck it's nose right at the top of the carrier. Jordan hissed, lunged & slapped the top of the carrier 2 or 3 times. Everyone in the lobby was sort of supprised. I just laughed it off & said that's my tuff guy. Looked at him & said yep now everyone knows how big & bad you are. Then one of the vets that knows Jordan said I heard he did good for his blood draw. I said yes, but then explained the dog incident. He just laughed & said we were just talking about him back there. He gets that look in his eye and you know your going to get it. Then when his regular vet called me with the blood work results and said I heard he did good in back, but there was an incident with a dog in the front lobby. I used to get so embaressed about these things, but now I just have to laugh because that is just who he is and I love him for it!
