Prednisone & Antirobe Aquadrops questions?

Piki my 10yr old Tabby started acting odd Saturday morning, he has never been ill prior. Never.
Compulsive walking and walking in circles as if possessed.
- Pressing the head against hard surfaces.
- not quite mood swings but grooming while taking breaks from eating (not manic grooming).
- looking and walking as if intoxicated & not responding to visual or auditory things.
....my vet tested his blood and all indicators were normal but his white blood cells were obviously fighting something. Piki has been on Prednisone & Antirobe Aquadrops since Saturday morning, 24hours so far & has shown definite improvements. But he does not want to be touched really.. his behaviour is still off. Does anybody have any experience with these drugs? I welcome all & any feedback. Thank you.

I know alot about Pred because Coco has had it alot of times. I do not know anything about the other Meds.

Piki has not eaten very much & we have had to resort to bribing him with tuna
and placing him meds in tuna. Did you notice any other side effects?

Coco ate more with the Pred and never got constipation from it. She has a side effect right now from her Depo Shot. She gets bladder infections from Pred and the Depo. She has never had anything like your Cat has from the Pred Pills.

I have no experience with the prednisone...but both my cats who had dental work were put on the Antirobe Aquadrops both before and after the dental work. There were absolutely no side effects with the cats whatsoever from taking the medication.

I have used both drugs quite a few times with many different cats and have never had any side effects from either.

My 13 yr old cat is currently on Antirobe (name brand for clindamycin) while we await her biopsy results. She has been on them for 3 weeks and has no side effect. I have also given this to 3 other cats before with no side effects.

Prednisone I have not used long term yet but for the times that I have had cats on it there have been no side effects.

Piki is doing much much better, he actually came to the door to greet me when I got home from work. He is almost 80% !! I

My current and previous vet will not give both antirobe and pred at the same time. They work against each other, leaving both not as effective as if you give them one at a time. When mine are sick, we give them a course of the antibiotic first and when finished, get them on the pred. Ask your vet about this - some aren't aware of medication interactions.

Pred - good as an anti-inflamatory and will often cause hunger and thirst. Not recommended for long term use unless there is no other option (my Stumpy has been on it for over a year).

Antirobe Aquadrops: A good general purpose antibiotic. It will knock out a lot of bacteria strains like staph and other things. Vets like to give it for oral inflamations. I would not recommend it for long term use because it works so well that it starts to take out the good bacteria in your body. I learned this from an infectious disease specialist.

That is very interesting. Using both of those 2 drugs together is the recommendation for cats with stomatitus.

It is 1:21pm and Piki has been slowing deteriorating. I took him to the vet earlier & the vet suggested we put him to sleep, as it is most like a brain tumor. He has regressed do badly that he cannot stand up on his own. I beleive he ate his last snack of tuna, albeit laying down... and we would like for him to pass at home. *****The story at the vet was surreal***** I signed the papers to have him euthanised, ands the vet was unable to successfully administer the drug to his vein, we tried on the 2nd leg and again the vein collapsed..... right then i turned back ans took him home hoping he would bounce back. the vet says he has less than 5% .

it is 2pm & we hope he will go alone, if not we will be taking him back to the vet1 last time. Thank you all for your feedback.

I'm so sorry. One consolation is he's not in pain any more. He's happy and healthy where he is now.
