As I posted back on June 9th, my mother has been feeding stray and feral cats. A neighbor moved several weeks ago and he had been feeding them. My mother felt sorry for them....you know the rest of the story. One of the cats had kittens. They have been feed kitten food and have had fresh water daily. About a week ago the kittens just started dying....one by one. We have had stray and feral cats show up before and have kittens but nothing like this has ever happened before. From time to time, one would die, but not an entire litter and just in the matter of a few days!! Just a week ago they were fine!! Can chicken feces be making them sick? That is the only change I can think of. One of my mother's neighbors got some chickens and his backyard smells like %$#@!! To top it off, this is in the city!! I just wonder if this is causing the kittens to become sick and die. One kiiten did have a discharge coming from its rear when my mother found it dead. I don't know if that can help anyone with this situation or not. Does anyone know why the kittens are dying? Thank you for your help.

Outdoor kittens have a very high mortality rate, sometimes as high as 95%. They are subject to a lot of parasites and diseases, and it sounds like that could be your problem. Also, they may be getting into something like car anti-freeze, which is a poison.

Could be poison, antifreeze, disease like panleuk or FELV, so many possibilities...

Sounds like poison but Feline Distemper kills swiftly and it is not pretty. My friend rescued a cat with it and it went downhill very quickly. Often it can be passed down from the mother without the mother becoming ill. For kittens this disease is deadly.
