Hi all, remember me and dusty? Well, I had to take her to the vet yesterday. She was not herself at all. Not a sound from her. She is very vocal with me. Her walk was slow and her backside would just go.
This happened when I first adopted her in January. But not as bad. The vet took fluid from her stomach area. Then he took an x-ray of her stomach. To make sure no urine was floating around inside. Well in the x-ray on her spine there was an old injury. I had an x-ray taken just of her leg, back in Jan. found nothing, but this was found with this x-ray. He said it was an pretty old injury. It must be from her deceased owner's house. (Since I have her, she is not a high climber sometimes she jumps on the bed or the chair, and misses it and falls back, but not all the time. And I'm at work all day and have no idea how much she tries to jump)

He gave her a shot, anti-flamatory. And gave me medicine to take home. I asked him if she was in pain. He said no. I was there when he was touching her in that area and she did not cry. But, I'm thinking, why is it, when she gets up after sleeping it's hard for her to get it together. She stops short in her tracks and abruptly sits, not of her choosing. Could this be pain, and she dosen't cry???? I'm taking another day off tomorrow. I want to watch her and see if she improves. I don't have the internet at home, just at my job. Let me know what you think about this. Can a cat be in pain and not cry? Thanks everyone.

Hi Sally,

First, I am so sorry that you are experiencing this with Dusty. It is quite feasible that she is in pain, cats learn early on to be very stoic when they are hurting and any show of weakness or pain, it is inherent in them to not show it, because they are so low on the food chain, so they do hide it.

I would take her to a specialist and have them look at her. Did they run a blood panel on her? I would ask them to do that as well. Is she acting normally otherwise? eating, drinking, using the litter box? For right now, I would confine her in a small room where there is little she can jump on and give her an nice thick pad of bedding in the middle of the floor where she can lie down in comfort, douse the lights and let her rest.

Yes, I had the blood test done in January, all was fine. And she is eating and drinking water. I even gave her some chicken I made last night. She loves it. She has her own bed. I noticed the first night she didn't sleep in it. But she is now. I can't wait to get home to see if she is better. I'll be home with her for 3 whole days too.
You mentioned a specialist,I guess of the spine, for animals?
Many thanks

You just basically want a cat specialist, because you do not know what is wrong with her. But if you can, find a vet who only specializes in treating cats, or even a vet school at this point, though your regular vet will have to do a referral.
