Tips For Cat Using Tray For Dumping Greatly Received

My cat which is about 1yrs old is driving me insane. It wil not use litter tray for taking a dump.

It will have wee in tray but not a dump. Things I have tried:
providing two trays - one for wee one for poo - doesn't work

changing litter type

getting new trays

keeping tray clean

confining cat to side porch overnight - goes for poo early morning - well used too.

when i tried putting a litter tray in the spot it likes to fo for poo it just decided to move to another location for toilet activity. i am going to try the cats favourite spot again with a new tray and new litter - just to test waters for progress.

Why wont it just use tray for poo. it seems happy to do wee in tray.

is this a quick fix solution as I dont really have time to (lots) of trying to get cat to use tray - I already have two cats - which act fine.

Have you spoke to your vet about this? If you haven't you really should to rule out any medical problems.

What size is your litter tray, and what kind is it? For example, is it a covered litter box? Some cats don't like those, but some do. What size is your cat? The bigger the cat the bigger the litter box needs to be so the cat can fit in and move around in there comfortably

How much litter are you putting in? Cats like to dig and they like to have a fair amount of space to dig in, so the litter needs to be deep enough that the cat can do this.

How many litter boxes do you have in total? It could be your cat just won't poop where the other cats have pooped. Some cats are finicky like that.

Also avoid using harsh chemicals to clean out the tray like bleach, just use dish soap and hot water. The bleach can leave an unpleasant smell to the cat.

I wish I could think of something else right now, sorry. And don't forget to check with your vet!

how come it will use its own tray for wee but not poo - with regards to size, cleaning agents, litter depth and so forth?

it may be half domestic and half a stray cat - would that make any difference? if it did surely it would have same reservations for weeing?

Has your cat ever used the tray for defecating or is this a new problem? If he's feral perhaps he's just never learned to do it in the tray. You might try a tray with dirt. Sometimes feral cats understand that better than litter.

surely that would apply to going for wee too?

i will give it a go anyway - am in mood try anything.

has anyone else heard of anything like this problem i have? and what have cures been there?

hmm ... what does your cat do when he pees in the tray? Does he smell around first? Does he scratch around? Or does he just go in and squat?

Also is your cat declawed? I am asking because sometimes cats that have been declawed experience pain in their paws when using the litter, especially since they have to dig around and so they avoid using the litter.

It could be he is peeing in there if he does not have to scratch dig around.

Also what kind of litter are you currently using and which brands have you already tried?

Also how long has your cat started doing this?

Trying the dirt as Howtoholdacat suggested might work.
