OK, the girls are now almost 7 months and we decided it was time for a little catnip. I put a little on the carpet and the girls went absolutely wild! Rubbing their faces in it and rolling around in it. They love the stuff! Now I wish I had bought a larger container. I know some kitties do not react to catnip, so I bought the small container. Now they are just laying there with funny looks on their faces.

They also got a new litter box and some new toys. I am looking to get a small cat tree for them too.

LOL I got a small inheritance check this week and they are getting very spoiled. Of course, they don't know it yet, but Mama is going to be calling the vet soon to get their spay appointments... Shhhhh. Don't tell them!

I love watching Arwen when she is given catnip drops, she goes wild! She will also keep coming back for more too

The last time we gave her a couple, she went so crazy that she knocked off a few baubles from the Christmas tree...then came back to the bag and tried getting more drops out, in the end we put them away to keep her calm

Sounds like they enjoyed themselves, I have a catnip spray, two of my cats love it, and one cat it has no effect on, she is to prim to be seen rolling around

My Zane is one of those cats unaffected by catnip. Smog and PurrPuss, his predicessors, were, on the other hand, very much affected.

Does anyone know if big cats are affected by catnip? I'd love to watch--from a safe distance--a tiger or panther on a catnip jag.

My understanding is that it acts on the same part of the feline equivalent of a brain that mj acts on in the human brain.

It's perfectly safe, but young kittens don't seem to react to it. Some catnip is of better quality than others, so a cat might not react to one "brand", but will to another.

We've got several catnip plants in our yard, and I've noticed that a lot of the neighborhood cats have their preferences as to how "developed" the plants are. Some like it when the leaves first sprout, while others like it in full bloom, or in autumn when it's starting to dry up.

I went to PetsMart today to buy 2 carriers and came home with a catnip plant too! This is going to be their reward tomorrow night when they get home from the vet after their spay!
