I am fostering 5 kittens on my cat Natty (for those who read the pregnancy thread). And I just realized there is a cuterebra larvae right under the right ear of one of them. I can see the hole and the larvae inside it. All the normal vets are closed right now, should I seek the emergency clinic or will she be okay until morning?

Botflies can be fatal to a kitten if the larva dies before it emerges. If you can't get to the ER vet, get to your regular vet as soon as possible and make sure you put nothing on the wound that could kill the larva. Poor little kitty....

Okay, I called the emergency vet since it's midnight and they aren't covered by the shelter I'm fostering from and they're like 1 1/2 hours away so they just suggested waiting until my shelter opens so I can have them refer me to a vet they will pay for. I just feel so bad because she's one of my favorites and there's been so much sadness in my family in the past week that I'd hate to lose a foster baby. And I'm afraid one of the other ones (orange male) has one that's smaller on his chest, I'm going to take them all to the vet tomorrow to make sure they're all okay.

Botflies are probably one of the few things that really really gross me out - as in make me shudder and run out of the room.

Good luck tomorrow.

I know! I hate them.

We took them into the vet and he removed the one from under the ear really easily and the one on the others kittens chest was really small so he had to make a cut to get it, thankfully I knew what the tunnels looked like to catch it early.
They are both expected to make a full recovery!

Yaay. I read your two previous threads and I'm so glad these two kittens will be okay! You've experienced too much sadness already. I hope things will keep getting better for you and your little ones!
