My mom asked if I wanted to meet her out at this Mongolian restaurant that we eat at often after she got off work a few hours ago, so my stepdad and I met her out there and went in. We got our seat and our waitress came over to ask what we wanted for drinks and was talking a bit before we went up to get our food.

I was the last to come back to the table of the three of us, and when I got back, our drinks were already there. When I sat down, I started taking a drink and my mom says, "The waitress asked if you were 12 or under so if you were you'd get the kid's price for your meal."

I almost choked on my drink.

I'm pretty sure most of you on here don't know too much about me, so..

I'm 19, I'll be 20 in December.. I'm a bit short (5'4") and most people that don't know me always seem to age me down.. usually to about 16 or so. I never wear any makeup, so that may be another reason people don't think I look 19. But I have never had someone ask if I was that young. At first I thought my mom was kidding, so I was like "You're joking right?" and she was like "No, I heard her ask if you were 12 or under when I was coming back to sit down"..

I started laughing, but really.. is that bad? I mean, I know people take it as a compliment when they have someone say they look younger than they really are, but twelve??

Well, based on what you said, the waitress obviously is a bit off on her age estimates. But I wouldn't think twice about it after having had a chuckle.

Some day you will kiss the person who thinks you are 7 years younger than you actually are.

Hey I am only 4'9 and it happened to me all the time. It would make me mad and it makes my Sister mad also. She is 21 and they always that to here. She is 4'8. One time she was at the Mall and these girls were bothering her saying shes to young for make up and stuck up. She went and got the guard and he said they are not allowed in the mall during school hours so they go kick her out shes 11. The Guard goes no she isnt she is 20. They had threatened to beat her up. I went to Vegas and was in the lounge and was asked to leave because I did not have my id. My Husband took a cab back to the hotel to get it. I was very mad and said see I told you I am over 25.

I too am 19 turning twenty in december. I too never wear makeup. I am 5'2" on a good day. I am OFTEN mistaken for 12.

I feel your pain! Truethfully i have a hard time with it alot. people see me as a kid, and i begin to see myself that way too... its like having a weird identity crisis.

That is pretty hilarious but at the same time sucks! I completely understand how you feel as well! I am 23 (24 tomorrow!
) and frequently get mistaken for age 16-18! What sucks is that I never feel respected or taken seriously, especially at work, because I look so young! When I graduated college almost 2 years ago people were asking me what college I was going to now that I graduated. LOL, actually that was college I graduated from! And now I am married, my husband looks very young too...so people think we are 18 year olds who got married out of high school.

I know, I know, someday I will appreciate it!

I spent most of my youth being treated as if I were older. When I was 12, people thought I was 16 or 17. I was tall early (5'6" at 12) and my bra size matched. When I was 17 or 18, I could have gotten into any bar I wanted to.

I'm happy to finally look my age. I am 25 and I look about 25. LOL.

I can imagine how frustrating it would be to be mistaken for 12 at 19, though!

I'm glad I'm apparently not the only one who has this problem. I am a little surprised though at some of the reactions, but maybe because this has never happened to me.. and I was a little shocked.

It's kind of funny though, because when I was 15/16, I had people at school asking if I was a senior, and I was like "No, I'm a sophomore".. and some guy at the mall randomly asked me if I was 19 or 20.. and I had just turned 16.
Then when I was a senior, several people were like "Are you a sophomore?"

I don't really think I look.. too much younger than 19, though I had a lady, a short while back, that I was talking with ask why I wasn't at school when it was like 12 in the afternoon, and I was like "I'm out of high school" and she was like "Really? I thought you looked about 16 or so"

Here is a recent picture of me, I took it a few days ago (just shoulders and up).. if you didn't know my age, how old would you guess? Just out of curiosity.

Hmm, you have a bit of a "cherubic" face if that makes sense- I'd guess probably 15 or so to be honest

I was one of those that when I was younger, like 12
, I was mistaken for much older, probably because I was, uh, fully developed at that age
and then for most of my 20s I was mistaken for a teen-ager
and now that I'm 30....I look my age

I know that horrible feeling.

Ever since I got my engagement ring most of the 'how old are you' comments have faded.

I'm 23 and 5'2" but often look 15. My husband has received some dirty looks as though he's sick for marrying such a "young" girl. It probably doesn't help that he's 6 years older than me!

Great, you get to save some money

When I graduated grad school and people would ask me what grade I was in, I would say I just graduated, and they always thought that meant high school
Enjoy it! I am also a short female.

I giggled when I read that..
I think my face looks kind of weird.

I know what you mean, that's what's happened with me.. though I'm hoping it'll stay this way and when I'm older, people will think I'm a bit younger than I really am.

I got a promise ring from my boyfriend when I turned 16, and everyone who saw it, mostly the ones at school, all asked if I was engaged.. when I was a sophomore.
Fortunately, he looks a bit younger than his age (though I think I look my age), so it hides our small age difference.
I'm a little worried that someday he may still look years younger than he is, and I'll start looking older, and it'll be like your situation, but the other way around.

Haha, well they said I was older than 12, so I got the regular price for my food.

I sort of know how you feel about the "I graduated" thing, I get some pretty odd looks from people who ask what grade I'm in and I say I'm not in HS anymore.

lol. On my first day of my new job one of my new co-workers asked if it was my first job (thinking I was like 16 and out of highschool for the summer). I am an almost 28 year old married mother of 3!!!

Wow.. that's pretty crazy! I would have loved to see the look on her face when you told her how old you were.

Here's one that's a little over a year old.. I look pretty much the same, my hair is just a bit shorter now.. I'm growing it back out though.

Also, my arm (with the date over it) looks a little weird..

Back in the '80s, I had a good job and tended to dress in suits and heels a lot... but my best friend was a tiny little woman who wore her hair straight and parted in the middle, never used makeup, dressed in T-shirts and jeans and mocassins...

So one day when I was 30 and she was 32, we went into a music store and paused on our way to the sheet music to look at a grand piano... and a salesman came hurrying up and asked me, "Are you gonna buy that piano for your little girl today, ma'am?"

So nice to hear other people's stories!

I really don't care about age ("they" tell me that will change when I get older!), but I always thought it was funny that no one knows my age!

You know those fair "games", when you would pay the guy to guess your age, and if he's wrong, you win a prize? I ALWAYS won!

What's weird is, like you, I've kind of reversed. When I was young- even as young as 13, people thought I was 17 or so. When I got to be 15, I could easily just put on a little make up and go to casinos. NEVER got carded (good thing, too!!). I didn't get out to casinos for a few years, then finally did when I was 25. Hadn't been since I was 17. THAT's the time I got carded!

Doesn't it figure. I got in underage at least 8 times, no carding. Go in ONCE legally and get carded! He he.

Oh, wow.. I would probably be a little upset if I was in that position. It makes me think of when I went to an amusement park in the summer of 05 (I was 16) with my boyfriend and his dad and brother, and we were eating lunch, and someone had their stroller with two kids in it by us, but they weren't there, so this lady assumed they were MY kids, and comes over and taps me on the shoulder and when I turn around, she points to them and is like "Your kids are biting each other.. I just wanted to let you know.."

I just stared at her for a minute and was like ".. I don't have kids"

For a while after that, I kept asking why anyone would think I have kids, and got over it after a little while.

I find that quite funny mainly because (and this is somewhat of a stereotype) I am from Australia and people here often say how young American's always look WAAAAAAAAAAAY older, so I find it quite amusing that its the oppostite for you.

But on the plus side, at least when you're 30 people will mistake you for alot younger!

Honestly, I would think you were about 16 years old...sorry. You are a gorgeous lady though.

I had the opposite problem going up in that when I was 13 , people thought I was 21 and now that I am in my thirties, people think I am in my mid-twenties.

Sorry you and others have that problem of looking younger now but as you get older, you will be more than happy to look younger.
