To get vaccinations or not?

I do not get mine the Leukemia Shots anymore. They have been known to cause to many Cancers. Coco and Meeko used to get that shot.
You might want to do a little research. Continuously vaccinating him may be what is CAUSING him to be prone to URIs. URIs are just kitty colds and are comparable to people getting a cold every now and then. Everytime you vaccinate, the vet uses a live vaccine which puts a tiny little bit of the disease into the animal. Doing this more then necessary may actually be causing him to be sick all the time.Originally Posted by Mer636

As far as my opinion goes and I have said it many times, I vaccinate once and once only as an adult. To clarify, of course I do the kitten vaccines, starting at 6 weeks and boostering it every 3 weeks until 14-16 weeks of age, then one vaccine as an adult with the rabies and thats it. My cat that goes outside will probably get a vaccine every three years or so and she is the only one with a rabies shot and it is a 3 year.
The best thing to do is to have a titre done to see if your cat even needs another vaccine. That will tell you exactly how much protection she has and you will know if you need another one.
It makes absolutely no sense to vaccinate any living thing every single year. Common sense just tells me there is nothing even remotely right about doing that. I have seen too many animals get sick and die from the very diseases they are being continuously vaccinated against. It is wrong IMO.
Please, Please, please keep your cat vaccinated for rabies as required by law! Don't put someone else through what I recently had to go through. I was bitten by one of the neighborhood strays. I know he was not trying to attack me--he did the grab leg and chomp thing. Unfortunately, I was wearing shorts at the time and it broke the skin.
I caught the cat in my cat carrier, and went around the neighborhood to see if anyone claimed the cat. After determining that one person sort of claimed the cat, and that he was NOT vaccinated AT ALL. I called police dispatch to have an animal control officer come out and collect the cat. They could not send anyone out to get the cat that night! (It was in a cat carrier. I don't see why a regular police offer could not have gotten the cat and taken it to the pound.) There was no way I was going to keep a cat in a cat carrier on my porch all night. So I let him out and re-captured him the next day. I am well aware of what happens to animals sent off for rabies testing. This was NOT an easy thing to do. However, I had no place to isolate and quarantine the cat.
We desperately need a trap-neuter(vaccinate)-release program around here. I live in a college town next to an elementary school. The neighborhood strays are very friendly. Cats bite. It's only a matter of time....
If the cat had been indoor only, I probably would not have worried. My cats are indoor only. Marmalade manages to sneak out from time to time. I keep them all vaccinated as required by law.

I don't care if it is a law or not, I would never ever ever vaccinate anything every single year. Would you yourself get a vaccine every year? Would you vaccinate your kids every single year? Doesn't that sound kind of dangerous? IMO that is just irresponsible for a vet to suggest that. I bet he didn't even suggest a titre did he?

~Rabies once every 3 years
~FVRCP kitten series and one adult dose and NO MORE then every 3 years or titre
~Leukemia NEVER
Midnight my friends Cat would be alive now if she had not got Cancer from the Rabies Shot. She had Chemo and everything. You do not know how mnay Cats die because of Rabies and Leukemia Shots. My Lucy had the Shots then the next day almost died. Blood Transfusions saved her. The Vet said the shot caused it all. After taht she was never the same and died on the way to er. she kept needed blood transfusions.
It should say on the rabies certificate they gave you. They should have given you a receipt, but also a rabies certificate stating the kitty is vaccinated for rabies.
I haven't decided which vaccinations we'll get Albus, if any...he's strictly indoors, though he does occasionally try to get out. We're in a condo, though, so he has to get all the way downstairs, through the lobby, etc. to get out.
Anyway, besides rabies, is there anything I should worry about him catching from our dog? We only vaccinate the dog for rabies (3-year shot) and get him tested for heartworm every 2 years with the monthly pills/treats in between. Like I said, we're in a condo, so we have to walk the dog and we're really anal about him sniffing/licking puddles, other dogs messes, etc.
Should I worry about him getting something from the dog, whether it's something that can be vaccinated against or not?

The receipt we get, but no certificate for any of our cats. Even years ago when we had out first cat at a different vet we never received a certificate.
One of our cats was adopted from a shelter so on his adoption records it says his vaccines he got which includes rabies. Our other cat we got as a stray.
I'm going to have to re-check the laws, I could post it here.

Nope, mine have no license. Only thing I can think of is mabye that is not required in New York state for cats, only for dogs?
