Discharge- getting close?

I just noticed a tiny bit of discharge from Sienna's vagina, does this mean she is close to delivery or does this happen throughout the pregnancy? She is sitting in a shelf up in my closet sleeping. She is not meowing or looking like she's in labour. She purrs when I talk to her or pet her though and is really affectionate. How close can she be? For those who don't know the story she is a foster so I have no idea when she got pregnant or when she is due.

That could be a possible sign. What color is the discharge? And if she starts meowing, nesting, or acting nervous, then she might defiantly be close.

It's hard to tell what colour the discharge was, there was very little and then she started licking before I got a good look. I just took her temperature (didn't think she'd actually let me but she did!) and it's 37.9 C (100.2 F) so I guess it's probably not that close yet since I understand it should be lower than that before giving birth. Oh well, a bit more of a wait yet!

Hmmmm, she just started a really loud rhythmic purring which is unusual for her (unless I'm giving her pets!) Have to admit I'm starting to get a little excited!

Ok and now I can see her belly moving. I don't know if this is just the kitten(s) moving, or her having contractions. Is she supposed to be meowing if she has contractions? What did other people notice when their cats gave birth? I was supposed to go out tonight but I don't knnow if I should stay in instead, just in case! Any advice??

Well from my past experiences, they would have discharge, then purring, then contractions. Does she seem to be pushing with her whole body or is just her tummy moving on it's own? Some cats meow, some don't. But I notice that most meow when they are very close to pushing out a baby.

The tummy was moving more on its own than her whole body pushing. I havne't noticed this before though. She went into the area I set up for her delivery and purred herself to sleep. I won't be suprised if I wake up to kittens tomorrow or the next day, she is just acting really weird!

Sounds like a good sign to me
The babies do tend to move around a lot before delivery in order to set up for the birthing. Will you be able to post pictures??

No babies yet, but the kittens really moved around yesterday in there, they are in a totally different position, they are sticking out really obviously now when I feel her sides, is this an ok sign? She hasn't been doing much, just sleeping sleeping sleeping, unless I pet her then she's purring purring purrign! Yes, I will be sure to post pictures once the kittens arrive!

I am so excited! I will tell you what my vet told me yesterday. If she is in true labor for an hour and no kitten get to a doctor because there is a safety window of two hours and you need to act within that second hour. Not to scare you just to let you know.

SO? Kittens?

Nope no kittens yet. She's just sleeping away. No major labour contractions or anything yet! Maybe she was just purring and acting weird because her kittens were being so active? I don't know, this is all so new to me!

Maybe so! I'm sure she'll be just fine, purring is never much of a bad sign. Let us know whenever you think it's closer.

Well I saw a bit more discharge today, it was whitish with a tinge of blood (I noticed the blood because I got a bit on my jeans when she was sitting on me and it dried very slightly red, but not much). She has been sleeping sooo much and doing all the nesting behavior, which she's actually been doing for the past week. I think she is getting to her last days for sure, although I have read some other peoples threads where this sort of thing goes on for a couple weeks before they deliver! I really hope not, waiting sucks lol. She seems happy anyways, so that's good. She's such a little sweetheart!

Ooo that's always a good sign! I'm getting excited for your babies! I can't wait to see them and hear about the delivery. Have you taken another temp reading yet?

She's started meowing and getting a bit agitated today, looking for a good place to nest. I tried taking another temp reading last night but she didn't let me this time so I didn't force the issue! I wish I had an ear thermometer! Her vulva is also really swollen and kinda parted a bit, which I guess is a sign she's getting closer. I can't wait, I hope it's a speedy delivery and all kittens are born healthy!

Whiskers Vulva swelled and I put her in the bathroom. My Dad said why is the Cat in the bathroom and I said she is Preg and having tonight. We were going out to Dinner and when we got home Charcoal was born. She was swollen and parted also. Sounds like your Cat will have today.

Was Whiskers acting strange other than the swollen vulva? Nesting, meowing etc? Nesting is really the most prominent symptom for momma right now, she just keeps walking around looking for somewhere, maybe she wasn't comfortable in the cage I set up for her. I just emptied out the closet in the spare room where I want her to deliver and put blankets down and opened the door a crack and she is now in there. She is being more vocal too, but not like she's in labour vocal, just talking more to me when I pet her. I hope she delivers tonight, she's certainly acting like she wants too with all the nesting!

Yes she was. My Meeko became very volcal and demanded Coco stay with her. She would pace back and fourth. She started doing that the night before she had Yoshi. This was in 2002. Coco had 6 week old Kittens then and she picked a terrible time to have hers. She had 3 between 2-6 Am on Moving Day. I would have liked to see them born but I did not live there. We lived in a place that didnt take Cats so my Cats were left at my Dad for almost 3 years. Coco lived upstairs and Meeko downstairs. They did not know each other and when we moved Meeko was hissing at Coco. Then Meeko went in labor and they became real close. Whiskers had in 1979 and I kept her girl and named her Patches. Meeko had in her box and Coco picked the laundry in my Dads bathtub. Whiskers had on my shirt. I think your Cat is ready to have. Coco almost got to be a foster Mom. The Vet asked us because she was a very good Mom. There is a good chance she will have in the closet.
