sometimes you shouldn't look

I always look through all the adds on our local free classified page (sort of like craglist).
My dream dog has been an italian greyhound.
Today there was one on the free classifieds.
I couldn't help myself but to ask about him. 6 months old, neutered, current on shots. Housebroken, actually litterbox trained. And lives with 6 cats!
I want him I want him I want him.

Why is he free?! At 6 months old that would REALLY worry me.

he is not free.
Sorry if that was confusing. The local classifieds are free to adverstise on, he is not free, it was free to list him.

Oh! Whew! Ya know, they are small-ish dogs... don't take up much room.

I know .
We live in an apartment, but we have a huge open feild right across the street.
I am home all day, I work evenings. And my husband is home when I am at work and on weekends.
If he would agree with me I know we could handle it. And of course I love that the dog is litterbox trained already.

I had a min-pin once that was litterbox trained. It happened by accident and she basicaly trained herself but it was quite handy.

I wish we had the time and space for a dog.

If you did I'd gladly send you Izzy!

Talk to DH & quickly.....IGs who are cat friendly aren't that common, unless you get an itty bitty puppy (and even then no guarantee).

I'd love to but if I can't convince him of another cat (even one that shares his birthday) there's no way I'm selling him a puppy.

gosh, husbands. They always have to be the voice of reason.
He said I could have him if he was free lol.
So no ig for me.

Yeah! Damn them and their rational arguments.

So I told the lady who had him that we were very interested and that he sounded like a perfect fit for our family but that we have a trip coming up (over the 4th) and that my husband did not want to spend the money right now.
She responded that we did sound like the perfect family for him and that she would be willing to lower her price for us (by HALF, and that is still including all his stuff).
I can't wait till hubby gets home again tonight to ask him again.

My birthday is July 5th, sure would be a nice present!

Look at him, he is beautiful, how could you resist him?

Do you have permission from the Mgr to have another pet?

the rule (as well as the city ordinace) is 3 cats or 3 dogs or any combination thereof and the rule in our building is 25 pounds or under for dogs.
ig's are usually 9-10 pounds.

Is he a rescued past racer from a dog track? Many of the are raised with barn cats, and get along great in a home situation with cats. I was talking to a lady from a rescue organization in Kansas City and she was telling me what wonderful dogs they were. Her dog was with her and he kept wanting the kittens they had for adoption. He has his own cat at home.

My place has a very similar rule except is 3 of any providing their combined weight doesn't exceed 75 lbs. He does have an awful sweet face... and it would be a GREAT b-day present! Good luck!

Oh my gosh he's cute!

My husband doesn't want a 3rd cat again anytime soon. But he would love a dog. Maybe your DH will be easier to convince on a dog.

Well, for me anyway, the fact that he is already neutered and has all his shots is awesome. She was asking 200 for him but went down to 100 for me because he sounds like he would be such a good fit here. We will just have to see.

What a great deal! I really hope DH goes along with it... I could get used to seeing his picture around here.

Hes a sweetie! The only thing i know about greyhounds is that its really dangerous to have them in open feilds, that arent fenced in. They are bread for running and if thats what they can do... they will do it. Also, they need VERY flat land for running...once they get going they can easily trip on things... and the vet bills for that....yikes.

But otherwise, im a huge dog person too... just make sure you study and research they bread like crazy. If you want it beacuse its a small dog, reconsider... they need TOOOONNNSSS of excersize. But if this has all crossed your mind than forgive me for sticking my foot in my mouth.

Aww he looks just like 2 we have at work! I love Italian Greyhounds! They are so adorable!
He's so stinking cute!! And a great price too!! Ya can't really go wrong!

My advice is dont ask, just do it, they'll get use to it sooner or later! (normally later in my case) if my DH tells me one thing I normally do the opposite just because thats the way I am... and Im use to getting what I want! I dont think I could resist a face like that!!

update,
well I decided not to take him. Ig's are supposedly really fragile and I have 3 young kids.

They are somewhat fragile. Especially their legs, which are prone to breaks. They are a lovely breed, my sister has five of them but they do come with drawbacks. They are a breed you really have to make sure they are right for your family. You will get one someday. My sisters are delightful.
