I'm sitting at my dining table, facing our back balcony. I used to put nuts out for the squirrels who would come regularly and take them, until we went on holiday, and the squirrel got peeved and never came back (this is last year...).

I still put nuts out in the hope someone will come back - there's heaps around, but they run across the balconies across from us since they're closest to the big trees.

Well one just finally appeared on my balcony railing, found a nut, put it in his mouth and while he was checking it out, his little back feet were stamping up and down like he was running on the spot
It was so cute, I think he was super excited to find a nut
He found the next nut as well, but realised he couldn't shove both in his mouth (they're hazelnuts).

This is a new guy - he looks like a teenager, has a very shiny coat, I've seen him regularly for about a week now, and he seems less shy than the other squirrels. I am in love

Aww, how cute.
My Mom and Dad have a lot of squirrels where they live. My Mom says this one squirrel will come up to atrium door in the living room and pull itself up and look in.
I've been waiting and waiting to see it but the little guy never comes when I'm there.

He was probably thinking that he found the neighbourhood buffet!

I absolutely love squirrels We have a number of trees around our building so we have a fair number of squirrels.

The building I lived in before had a tree outside the window and I would occasionally see squirrels running through the trees. Occasionally they would stop to peer inside, hehe Now I'm too high up and don't have trees but I can hear them in the trees lining the river banks. Love their chirping sounds too!

By the way, how are those baby squirrels doing at the wild live place you volunteer at?

I decided to stop volunteering there
The 3 hour shift turned into a 6-7 hour shift, and I got too busy with my study and volunteering at the shelter to be having to do those sort of hours as well.

We do have a favorite one, he will sit by the back patio door and just wait for fresh nuts.

He also likes to take naps on our fence. lol.

OMG. That is sooooooooo cute!!!!!!!

My little guy has come back and eaten all the nuts - I'll have to put more out! By the time he was done, all 3 kitties were at the back door mesmerised watching him.

OMG! That is just way too cute! You should send that to a news paper or enter it into a photo contest!

I'm sorry to hear that! But those are way too many hours to volunteer over and above everything else you have going on. Studies are way more important.

That is indeed cute! We have squirrels in our neighbourhood, but they wouldn't be that foolhardy, with our kitties around - particularly Fawn. I have a series of shots, from last summer I guess, of a momma squirrel stuffing her face with seeds from the vine maple (it's been in distress for years so throws seeds almost as soon as it's in leaf), while Miss Fawn Watches Her Chance -- squirrel was too smart for her and stayed well up the tree.

Squirrels are neat people.

That's how I know this little guy - his tail isn't at all bushy, it's quite thin and fuzzy

Squirrels are on my "it" list right now. We are going to be spending a hunk of money to have someone come out and replace boards on our house where they tried to dig into the attic. We have one area where the angle of the roof where it meets the siding in such a way that every darn board has to be replaced because they got end of each board.
All of the damage was done this winter.

<sigh>

Sorry, I don't mean to laugh, but that reminded me of when I used to work for a restaurant equipment supply company. We sold and installed things like walk in freezers, coolers, slurpee machines, milkshake machines etc.

One of the service guys went to a small town not far from the city because the owner reported that his milkshake machine wasn't working when he went to open up for the summer.

Paul bought the machine back to the warehouse to work on it. He took the front panel off and some other things. There was a squirrels nest inside. There must have been about 20 pounds of nuts and various types of squirrel food!
So obviously they don't starve!

That photo is adorable!!

I love our squirrels too. We have a couple that come to the balcony to feed. They've gotten used to the cats watching so they don't seem too bothered, which just annoys the cats even more.

That's such a cute picture!

I don't mind squirrels normally, but we had a heck of a time with one bold little guy around here who developed a taste for tulip bulbs.

I have had squirrels taunt my dogs, like a cat would. Silly things, too much time for fun. I agree, they are super cute and I like them. I have seen white ones too. Neat creatures.
