Do ferals sometimes migrate in the summer?

I've been feeding a family of cats behind a local resturant and since the weather has gotten hot I hardly see them anymore. In the winter they were all there every day waiting for me. Now days and even weeks go by and I don't see some or all of them. If I didn't see each one at least once in awhile I'd assume the worst (and I still do) Where are they going that they don't want my food? Is this pattern normal, or is something bad going on?

There is a good chance it is because of the weather. Many cats will have less of a desire to eat people food once summer hits if they are outdoor cats, as that is a big season for mice and bird catching.

I notice that all the cats I've owned, indoor/outdoor, and that enjoyed hunting, experienced a decrease in hunger when it comes to meal times. They still eat, but have been known to leave their bowl half-full as they are all full up from a day of hunting. I also should mention that they usually lose their winter fat supply, and end up looking very sleek and trim compared to their winter selves, when they are indoor almost 24/7.

My guess is your ferals have caught the spring fever, and are finding it easier to hunt. Thus, they are always full of mice and have no need of people food.

Thanks, that makes me feel better. But I'll always worry until I see them again. So much can happen, but then again that could be said of all of us. Just about anything that could happen to a cat could also befall us. I saw my favorite I hadn't seen in 3 weeks the other day, I was so relieved! Mostly it's her mother and one or two sisters. The male cats were always rare, one showing up (at least for me) once every 2 months.
