Doesn't matter if I'm at work on our network or at home on my dsl.
I get this sometimes with Firefox.

It's been pretty slow for me today, too. I have DSL, and twice today I just gave up and went elsewhere; this site seemed to be down for a few minutes each time.

If it is the dragon eggs I am sure that everyone would be willing to comply in order to get this site back to tip-top shape!!!

As for the hacking, maybe an alert should be posted for everyone to make sure that their paswords are somewhat hard for someone to guess, because I have the feeling that some people probably use their username as their password.... (my friends myspace got hacked for this reason)

Hacking into an individual user's account shouldn't affect the site as a whole, should it?

My understanding was that another site on the server got hacked, which caused an excess of spam, which slowed down the server. Not that TCS got hacked.

I just "left" H&N because of them, and I'm using DSL at the moment. I can't even visit some forums when I'm using my PDA, as the connection times out thanks to "drag-cave".

well, maybe it's the eggs... but the drag-cave site is down today, & we still seem to be running slower

It may be down, but I'm still getting the "Connecting to dragcave.ath.cx" notifications, and the links/eggs/dragons are interfering with our ability to moderate threads and posts. I've been checking this out with a number of browsers, PCs, DSLs (at home and at work), and with my dial-up PDA over the past several days, and it's definitely a problem, and my recommendation, which has been supported by other mods and their experiences, is to not allow any connections to the site. Sorry, but it's really unfair to TCS members who are dependent on dial-up connections, or who have DSL light.

you don't have to apologize - if it's a problem, then we'll have to stop having them in the sigs.
i thought the problem was multiples, not a single egg or a link.

No, the single eggs are a problem, too, because that site is down way too much. I guess we'll have to see how it works with just links.

It may be just me, but it seems like once I visit TCS, my browser gets messed up. When I try to view a thread, it hangs trying to download pics. Sometimes I can coax it into working if I close the browser and re-launch, but as soon as I come back to a thread with pics it slows down again. I thought maybe it was all the graphics. Between the siggies, gifts, ribbons, championships etc. (never mind the dragons) I thought maybe that was what was slowing it down. I've got ADSL so it's not on my end, and I don't have this problem with other sites.

It has seemed to be a bit better today. Especially since the notice to limit the dragon eggs. Maybe that was the problem all along (?), or maybe it was a server thing that has recently been fixed. The problem has been going on for over a week for me, and just seems to be better today. I actually was able to post the Question Of The Day without incident (and quickly enough that it posted before my computer guru showed up!) Yay! It was fun actually seeing the different dragons, but if limiting them speeds up the site, I'm all for it. (Sorry!)

There's no need to apologize. Everybody thought limiting people to one egg, hatchling, etc., would be enough, but that turned out not to be the case. Sometimes you just don't know till you try. Photobucket and the other image-hosting sites usually don't present a problem. Quite a while ago, members were surrounding their siggies with flashing Christmas lights. While it looked great, so many were doing it that the site was crawling, so we had to ask people to stop.

If it's just the dragon eggs, why do I still have the problem? It's something else......

i've PMd a couple of people when i saw eggs/dragons in their sigs... it's going to take a while to reach everyone, tho.

Yup

The dragon cave site is VERY slow to respond, so everytime someone on TCS tries to load a page that has an egg it is slowing down the site, and the dragon egg thread has been popular with requests to please click on eggs removed from the site but there are people who joined and haven't been back, or just haven't been on since the removal request that still have their eggs
