**** Abortion is central to the plot in this movie, but I don't want this thread to turn into a debate about it. I placed this thread in IMO, because the movie deals with over all adult topics.
As noted above, a woman seeking an abortion in Communist Romania is central to the plot of this film, however, it's not an "abortion" movie. (If you want to see a movie on that and only that see Lake of Fire, I did a review of it in this forum so all you'll have to do is search) The main focus of the film is friendship. In a way this is the end all be all female buddy picture. It's like Thelma and Louise, but much darker, shot better, and both of the characters live in the end.
Now, I volunteer with a woman who grew up at the tail end of Communist Russia. She was the one who recommended this film to me because I kept asking about what it was like to grow up in that time. Apparently this film is spot on with it's depiction of what life behind the Iron Curtain was like.
Now, should you rent this film? Well... yes. I think everyone should see it because it's a difficult film to watch. So, if you are up to stretching your boundaries for an evening this is a good film to do that with.
Just to note this movie is rated R for a reason. It's graphic, there are naked people, and the pacing of the film isn't right for anyone under 18.
