I can't be the only one this happens to. Anyone else have some Petfinder-induced moments of longing? Here's mine.

Every now and then when I'm bored I make the mistake of looking at Petfinder. My current position in terms of adopting more animals is no more until I'm in a graduate program. I'm done with college, working full time, but I know I'm going to be moving around a lot in the next few years, and I'm hoping to start an MA or PhD program. Also, ideally, no more animals until I have more space and/or have at least a small yard. My BF and I have two cats and we live in a NYC apartment.* We have more room than a lot of people our age, but it is Manhattan after all.

And then I see this guy: http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/dis...petid=10989801

I know it's just a picture and a short description, but I feel like I can get a good sense of his personality and he just seems fantastic. Exactly what I've always wanted in a dog. We got the first of our cats about a year and a half ago when I was doing some similar surfing (yes, it's a bad habit). I saw her listing and just knew she was the perfect cat for us. I was totally right. That's the same feeling I get from this dog.

It's driving me bonkers because it's just not the right time. I know I would give him a great life, but there are other things I should be spending my time on.

So who else does this sort of thing?

*(Honestly, I don't see the problem with having big dogs in urban environments as long as the owners have the appropriate level of dedication. There are so many dog parks around. I helped raise my mom's 75 lb English Shepherd mix. She goes to the run twice a day, plays with loads of dogs, and gets two other walks daily.)

I'm in almost the exact same situation. Me and my boyfriend live in a decent sized apartment in a city, and I'm in graduate school, but will be moving around....so we only have two cats.

And he has banned me from petfinder

I get obsessed with it, and I've found a white shephard I would kill for!! sometimes I ask him if we can just go to the pound and adopt the oldest dog there just to rescue it, and because it wouldn't need a lot of space. I know it wouldn't be fair though because of the lack of time.

But yes, point is, I have the same problem.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean.
I've tried to restrain myself from looking at Petfinder anymore, but I haven't had much success!

Imunsie, I adore shepherds, so I feel your pain. Also, I feel like being in grad school makes it really tricky to resist because you're almost stable, but not quite there yet. You could probably manage, but it's still not a good idea.

I've definitely fixated on this one dog. I keep thinking I'll forget about him, but I keep going back and looking at his listing.

I've actually promised myself that if he is still with his foster family in a few months I will let myself actually consider trying to adopt him. It may all be moot, depending upon how he is with cats and if the group adopts to urban families, but I'm not even willing to try to answer those questions right now. Foot in the door and all that.

Nina, I'll go for a while without looking, or I'll look and not feel any temptation. This is the first time I've really gotten bit by the Petfinder bug.

I check Petfinder daily. Because I update the shelter's listings here, I love to read how people create bios & see their pics.

I've seen way too many I'd love to bring home, including a tortie who looks/sounds like my RB Damita.

None of them will come home with me, I'll stick to pulling the ones I can save from being euthanized locally.

Yep I like to torture myself by looking at the greyhounds. Alas, I live in a 400 square foot apartment with 4 cats, I work full time and I am finishing my masters degree. So I know that a greyhound wouldn't fit in my appartment or my life, but I still go look.

Ah, she's gorgeous! Greys are such sweethearts. I like that she sounds like such a goof,
