Ocelots are a WILD cat ... and I am thinking with Australian laws as strict as they are that would be a NO

Ocicats??? YES a number of our Aussie members have them

Given that most Australian states don't even allow you to own ferrets, I'd be very surprised if you were allowed to own an ocelot (anywhere in the world!) unless you had a zoo license!

well, probably the same places that allow private ownership of tigers, bobcats & mountain lions would allow ocelots...
i figure if AmbertheBobcat wanted one, he could probably get one!

I doubt very much you can own an Ocelot. If it's an Ocicat you're after I can recommend some breeders

Ocelots are very beautiful wild cats. I would imagine it would depend on the laws where your at and if you can get licensed to have one. Maybe Amberthebobcat could help you. They have beautiful exotic cats!!

I thought the Ocelot was on the endangered species list.. Correct me if I am wrong. They are trying to protect them from poachers.

Yes, they are on the endangered list. However, as with most exotic cats sold here in the USA, these cats are not taken out of the wild, they come from breeders. (Although I am not familiar with any breeders here in the USA) I am not familiar with the laws in Australia, so I can not help you there. Legally, you would not be able to have a wild Ocelot, because they are a protected species. You would have to find a breeder and it must be legal for you to own one.

australia, no, unfortunately their laws are very strict on owning exotic animals. you can, however, obtain special permits and/or licenses in most states of the u.s.
