I'm Not There

So, I finally was able to get my paws on a copy of the Bob Dylan bio-pic that was the talk of the Indy film community all last year. Let me tell you, I'm sad I didn't see this in a theater filled with people. I should have waited for Juno to come out on DVD, and watched this one instead.

All in all, there are five actors that play Dylan. All five have different takes, and all five go though different parts of his life. The best part is each character could be a stand alone short in it's own right. They are all shot differently, film stock included. Trust me on this, if you are even a Dylan fan in the smallest sense of the word: RENT THIS FILM. It's worth it. In fact, why haven't you see it already. You are a bad person. Put down the copy of Transformers you were thinking about renting, and rent this one. Really. Trust me. (I have no qualms about using other forms of guilt.)

Also, Heath Ledger gives one of his last performances in this film, and it's really beautiful.

Now for the side rant about a remake. I Spit On Your Grave (1978) is one of the most difficult, but quintessential horror films that has ever been created. It took every thing about the feminist movement, and depicted it.... graphically. Really graphically. Like, no one under the age of 18 should even think about watching this film. The word on the street is that it's going to be remade, and the violence will be "amped" up, and the film will be made more attractive. My thoughts: Boo. First, it's already a really violent film. Second, it NOT being attractive is one of the central artistic points. I'm going to keep up with it, but I'm already not very happy about it.
