Hi all,

I'm fostering an older (~10 years, declawed) cat who is very friendly but is a biter. He never shows any signs of aggression when he bites, and it seems to be somewhat random--sometimes you'll be petting him and he'll grab your arm and bite (never hard) or sometimes if you're just sitting nearby he'll do the same thing. I'm afraid this will hurt his chances of being adopted (like his age wasn't enough
) so I'd like to break him of the habit if possible. Any suggestions are welcome!

I think your kitty is giving 'love bites' and that might even increase his odds for adoption. I have a love biter and I find her little nips very endearing, especially since I learned that this is how many cats express affection.

If you can't break him of the habit....why not just advertise that he give love bites to those he feels deep affection for? That way when he bites his new owner, they'll be flattered by it.

my Chip does this. it's very different from the biting he will attempt as a defense [he's also declawed]. usually he's lying in my lap, purring contentedly, then he reaches up & nips at my jawline.
i don't care for it, & he know that - but i think it's just something he has to do!

Thanks for the input, it doesn't really bother me but I'm afraid that someone looking to adopt might be put off--I'll mention the love bites, he is just so sweet and deserves his own home! Here's a picture of him when I caught him drinking out of the sink (I did turn on the faucet for him
)--he looks almost guilty
