Who will be watching the Derby? I think its on about 5pm Eastern Time. Will we get to see a Triple Crown winner? I think Brown can do it.

Who is your fav race horse(s). Mine will always be Secretariat and Ruffian

I think you mean the Belmont
. I will try to watch it, but we are going to the aquarium today so I am not sure. I hope he wins so we can have another Triple Crown winner!

Gosh, who doesn't want Big Brown to win the Belmont Stakes. Especially knowing about the jockey's son who has Usher's Syndrome and will probably be blind by midlife.

Odds are now 1 - 4.

Ooh, a lot of people don't want him to win. I don't think there are many who don't like Big Brown or his jock, but the problem lies with the owners and the trainer. Owners are your typical big business people who have a racing stable as an afterthought, they don't really care. The trainer has had issues with drugs and most of us can't stand the idea of him using steroids on Big Brown. As one thread on another forum stated: The Racing Gods Don't Let Cheats Win the Triple Crown. Big Brown is a good horse, sweet and loveable, which makes it a shame to be handled by the connections he has. Any other group and we'd all be cheering for a TC sweep.

As it is, Big Brown lost. No ideas yet on why, but the most likely theory is from the heat (93 degrees). He probably just tired. The hoof was not the problem, as they checked him over and he looks perfectly healthy.

Da'Tara won, with a 22 year old jockey (I think they said this was only his 3rd graded stakes race). He took the lead from the start and kept it to the wire. At 38-1, he basically stole the race, and gave Tiznow his first classic winner (Tiznow is the sire, fyi)

Yup, he did (I thought I mentioned that in my post, but looks like it didn't find it's way in, lol). He was being eased in the end, as Kent (the jockey) felt something was off. Could be a medical issue, or it could be that the horse was so tired that easing him up was just the only thing to do. We'll see what happens over the next couple of days.

I would have watched it, but we don't get that channel

I was suprized to hear that Big Brown was even racing. I personally think he should have had more time to heal and rest. After that loss his owner probably thinks he should have rested longer too.

He didn't look that excited to race. Maybe it was the heat but he didn't seem to want to run.

Oh well maybe next year
Still think the greatest one was Secretariat
I still remember watching him at the Belmont - the other horses were almost standing still
