i have 2 new kittens, both male and brothers. they are coming up on 2.5 months of age. one of my kittens, nugget- is the more dominant and active one.

on two occasions i have seen him humping his brother, gobbles.

i am surprised at their age that they would even attempt trying to have sex!?!

how do i stop nugget from humping his brother? is it possible they could have (anal) sex? i am being serious with this question!

i sprayed nugget with a water bottle when i saw him humping, but i don't know if that did any good? i dont want to see that happening to my more docile MALE kitten??

please. any suggestions???

It's dominate cat behavior. Your dominate kitty is showing his more docile brother that he is in charge. Let them work it out - and also know that it may change as they age. Your "docile" kitten may decide he wants to be alpha cat.

While it can happen - other members have mentioned "kitty rape" having happened to younger male cats, that is most certainly not what is happening with your two.

Make sure to get them both neutered soon as you don't want to deal with kitty hormones getting into the mix and that will help keep their behavior/play, especially with each other, less aggressive.

Its dominance NOT sexual. I don't know why people assume two males in animals are having sex....
I've had that happen between litter mates.

However, I would have them neutered in another month (between 3-4 months old) because kittens are maturing earlier and you don't want them to really be a boy

It might be because humans try to anthropomorphize animal behavior. Humans don't go around humping each other to determine dominance, so people assume the next thing...

Before we took our kittens in (they lived outside our house), one of the neighborhood 'owned' cats, Yogi, used to try and hump Conor and Steve. Conor is a girl, so that was understandable (though, she hadn't reached sexual maturity yet - she did after we took them in and we promptly got her fixed), but he also went after Steve. We assumed that meant Steve (who we then called Niamh) was a girl, but after we took them in we found out 'she' was a 'he'. It was definitely a dominance thing - Steve is very much a shy little boy. Yogi never went after Paddington (probably because Paddington was obviously the dominant one). Thankfully, Yogi has been fixed now as well (finally...).

Anyway, don't worry about right now. Get them fixed when the time is right. They are just being kittens.

My two brothers Seldon and Cleo have done this. They did it young but don't do it anymore. It is normal.
