I adopted my cat from an animal shelter about 2 years ago when my husband was in Iraq. She was roughly 4 months old when I got her. She's an indoor cat, as there are way too many coyotes where I live. For the first 9 months her whole world revolved around me, as we have no children. My husband didn't come home for 9 months after I got her.
She doesn't seem to like my husband, and we have no idea why. I thought it was jealousy at first, but now a year and a half later, I'm not so sure.
The only time she's ever been 'nice' to him was when she had a fentanyl pain patch after surgery, within 2 days of it coming off she was back to her usual self with him. She runs away from him, and hisses at him, and just generally has no time for him at all. It's so strange, because for the most part she's a really lovely little cat.
Are there any suggestions as to how I can help her to accept my husband? He's really good with her, so it's not his attitude or temper towards her that's causing it. I'm at my wits end.
One other thing, she's pretty scared of other people too, when other people enter our home she runs and hides in the closet.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
