Hello
Our 1 year old American shorthair, "Kitty" has been so humorous lately. I know all cats occasionally do what I described as "scared kitty" - arching their back, standing sideways on tiptoes and slicking ears back.
Well, Kitty has started doing this almost in a playful manner with me. At least 4-5 times a day, sometimes when I walk into the room where he is, he will do this to me. I laugh loudly and cajole him and he immediately stops. Sometimes when I walk past I will tease him a bit saying things (in my "kitty talking voice") like "I SEEEEEE you Kitty!" and he will do it again. I find it really hilarious.
He mainly does it with me, although he sometimes does it with others in the household. It's almost like he knows we enjoy it so he does it.
He really isn't scared or angry or anything else -- he is a very mellow cat and it just seems like playing.
Do your cats do this?
ps. My mom told me that a vet told her once that behavior like this means the cat thinks I am his mate...! I don't believe that...
