My 8 week old female, who was the runt of the litter, almost choked on a piece of dry food yesterday. She was able to get it up and I immediately took the food away. She ran off to chase her brother and I sat there with the shakes. I wanted to leave dry out for them when I am at work so they have something to eat when I am not there to feed the wet. I don't want them to get hungry, but now I am scared for her. I would like to try one of the premium foods that also fits my budget. I have a 90 minute commute and the price of gas is taking a toll on me. I tried Inova Evo and they wouldn't eat it. My next try was going to be Wellness. I can't find Orijen here. Since this happened do you think I should try to find a smaller kibble to give during the day or no? I could just leave wet out, but they won't always eat it when it starts to dry out. Does anyone know of a smaller kibble kitten food?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

She was able to get it up herself by "coughing" I assume? This could just be a one-time thing. I wouldn't get too worried about it myself and they definitely should have food left out for them during the day when you are away. Kittens should get as much food as they want because they are growing so fast.

Wow! you must have been scared to death to see kity choke. I am glad she is ok. I have no advice, I just think this is important, and don't want it to get lost in the shuffle.
I a sure one of our resident experts will be along soon.

I actually switched to larger piece cat foods when my cats choked on the pellet sized foods (Hill's c/d). It happened several years ago, but I'm still scared of it happening again. 2 of my cats choked and we had to do the kitty heimlich maneuver.
We also had that happen with cat treats that were a little bigger, but round. By switching to larger pieces we were able to slow down their eating, they have to crunch it into pieces, and they don't choke now.

I'm glad your kitty is ok.
