We're moving to DC and won't have room for our formal dining room table in our new condo (we're having to down-size dramatically due to the cost of living) so we're trying to sell it. Our kitties love sitting on top of the table and therefore it is completely covered in paw prints. I have tried and tried and tried to get the prints off but I can't seem to get rid of them. I have just been using Pledge, wiping with a cloth, and then buffing with a clean microfiber cloth... The prints are still there.... You have to be looking at a certain angle to see them, but I know they're there and would feel bad selling it like that.

Anyone have any suggestions on something I could use to get rid of the prints without damaging the finish on the table??

Hmm....I would suggest pledge, but you've tried that. Possible try spraying some Windex on a soft cloth and wiping it, that might work...(shrugs)

Over the river and through the woods...
I'm doing some research because my living room coffee table has paw prints in it that won't go away too. Here's some I've found....

Actually the last link is to get permenant magic marker out...and they used toothpaste! You may want to read it and try it. For just paw prints, it shouldn't take as much as for marker, and it didn't sound like you will hurt the finish.

You could also try calling a fine furniture store and ask their suggestions. I'm sure they have to get some nasty marks out of the show room displays at times.

Good luck!

What kind of cats do you have?!
Just kidding. My guess is that the paw prints are showing because pledge is greasy and leaves a flim behind. I also suggest using some sort of cleaner that could get the flim off. Windex should work without hurting the wood.

Otherwise, maybe some dish soap to break up the grease and then rinse it really good with clean water.

thanks to all who gave suggestions... I ended up giving the Windex (ammonia free variety) a try b/c that was all that I had available, and it worked, although it completely removed the 'shine' that the table had... I then it it with a couple coats of Pledge and it got a little bit of the shine back but not completely.

Oh well, the 2nd couple that came by to look at it ended up buying it so that is all that matters, although the kitties still seemed confused when they go into the dining room and there's no table for them to play on

I'm wondering if this was ever resolved with a solution.

I have tried -

Dawn

Denatured Alcohol

Mineral Spirits

Murphy's Oil Soap

Ole English Furniture Polish

Peanut Butter

Perfect Glass

Shout

Simple Green

Turpentine

I swear by Murphy's Oil Soap. When I was a teenager, my parents were away on vacation so it was just us kids at home. I left a window open and it rained. A wooden end table got wet and there were water stains on it. I considered writing my last will and testament when I found the Murphy's. As a last ditch effort, I cleaned the table with it. The water spots were gone. They never came back. No one was ever the wiser

You can now add Guardsman Cream Furniture Polish as well as Guardsman Lemon Oil.

Her tiny little paw prints are still there.

I just used Love Potion # 11 Guitar polish and it worked like a charm!
