Hello! My name is Susan, and I can't believe I only found this forum today! I'm very excited to have finally, finally found a cat-related forum, because cats are my favorite animals ever.
I'm 29-years old, a registered nurse, live in TX, am a vegetarian/animal rights activist, and I currently share my life and house with 2 cats. And my husband, his dog, and 5 chinchillas. I'd have many, many more cats if only dear husband hadn't have said he'd divorce me if I brought any more home.
My 2 favorite felines are Oscar and Emmy. Please tell me y'all get that.
Oscar is about 6 years old now, and he's my very best friend in the whole world; I love him more than everyone and everything. In fact, when we were on our honeymoon in New Orleans, we got palm readings done, and the palm reader said that I have 2 love lines. My husband and I both said at the exact same time, "The second line is for the cat!"
Anyways, Oscar is huge - 17 pounds - and a grey and brown tabby. He's probably some kind of maine coon mix. I got him from a pet store adoption day when my husband and I were dating. At that point in time, I was in nursing school and my mom had said no more animals in her house (I've always had a tendency to collect animals where ever I am.) Unfortunately, though, my childhood cat, Toonces, had recently died a very tragic death. So my husband let me adopt Oscar to live at his apartment to help my grief. And now Oscar and I are inseparable. Oscar, despite being named after a grouch, is gentle and sweet, tolerate, loving, aggressive, and totally not afraid of anything. I adore him.
Emmy came to us a little over a year ago when I was coming home from the gym and saw a sign that said free kittens. I pulled over and took a look and saw Emmy, who looked so much like Oscar and Toonces put together that I just *had* to take her. When I got home, I told my husband I "found" her abandoned under my car at the gym. He took one look at me and said, "You better tell me the truth right now." So I had to confess. He originally said I had to find her another home since one cat was "enough", but I pleaded and begged and fell in love with her, too, and so did Oscar, so he caved. Emmy is playful, but skittish. She only likes me and Oscar. She must know my husband didn't want her, for she never comes out if I'm not home and will not tolerate him touching her or holding her. No one believes we actually have 2 cats.
Emmy looks so much like my cat Toonces did that we jokingly call her E-oonces (pronouced "Oonces") Emmy is a black and grey tabby, very slight and slim, where Oscar is huge and ... well ... large.
I know that was an unbearably long intro, but once I get talking about my cats, I just can't stop. I look forward to talking about them even more to all of you guys and hearing about your cats, too.
