Hi, everyone!
I am new here and just wanted to stop in to introduce myself. I am a 35 year old married woman who lives in Michigan. I have no human children, instead I have my cat Powder, who is a 10-year old white domestic shorthair. I also have one gerbil named Shirley (her sister Laverne died about six months ago) and one fish named Jobu, who is a pink convict cichlid we rescued from my husband's coworker.
We adopted Powder from a no-kill cat shelter nine years ago which sparked my interest in cat rescue. The shelter she was adopted from was owned and run by a woman who had a partnership with a local vet. I took Powder to the same vet seeing as though Powder had already established a history with her. Since that time, this vet has opened her own no-kill shelter and I am considered a "Pal" to the shelter. I tried to volunteer at the shelter but my cat allergies are so bad that I was forced to quit after three months. Instead, I now donate money, food, litter and other things that don't require too much time being at the shelter.
I have my own "colony/neighborhood" of strays that I feed. Over the years I have rescued approximately 10 strays from my neighborhood. Once rescued they are taken to my vet who owns the shelter where they are immunized, altered and taken t the shelter for adoption. My goal is to socialize the cats in my colony and get them to the shelter.
I've been a cat lover my entire life and have always had at least one for a pet at all times. My allergies and asthma suffer greatly for it but I'd never have it any other way.
I look forward to being a part of this marvelous group of people here!
