I just wanted to see if I am the only chicken in the world at my age. I am 30 and I am still afraid to be home alone over night. If I am home alone overnight I will stay up all night in the front room couch, all the lights on with possible weapons near by.

I am pretty sure the reason for this is I am painfully aware of all the bad things that happened everyday in the world, I am aware that there are lots of bad guys/girls out there. With all the horror flicks I have watched and a decade of researching serial killer psychology, watching true crime shows, etc I am not in the dark of horrible people. So now when I am alone I get really, really scared to the point where I am sore the next day for being so tense (LOL still the same as when I was younger)

I never knew this until I moved in with my boyfriend. I have had big dogs all my life, the smallest being a 70 lb German Shepherd. We had dogs that were scary to look at (Pitt/Lab, Rottie, Shepherd along with my uncles Dobermans sometimes) so it made me feel safe. The fact that if someone did break in my dogs would have probably gave them a thousand kisses didnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t concern me, it was their look that made me feel safe.

Knowing this my boyfriend never leaves me alone and if he has to he calls all the time, but he just accepted a new job where he will be on call every second week overnight. So it made me realize even more how chicken I am LOL. BTW we are getting a dog (Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m sure you all will hear about that soon, with pics!), so that problem is fixed but I just wanted to see if I was the only person who freaks out when home alone?

Nah, DH used to work nights and sometimes he goes to his friends and is out all night. I don't mind being home alone at night. I used to have a 9 mm by my bed but we were strapped for cash so we sold it.

I'm a huge chicken as well. I'm terrified of the dark, and get freaked out if the power goes out at night. I don't even want to think of how I'd be if the power went out at night and I was alone.

When my boyfriend closes at work, he doesnt get home till 11 at the latest. I have to have the living room light on, plus the tv on when I go to sleep. I'm terrified of the dark. I think it's the same as you. I know what kinds of people there are out there, and with all the horror movies I watch, it creeps me out. I want to go see The Strangers this weekend, but I dont know if I can. The trailer REALLY creeps me out.

I'm the same way. John and his family are going on vacation in a month or so and I'm staying behind to take care of the animals. My choice, I could have gone, but I don't trust most people with all of the animals and they wouldn't be able to go. So I'll be alone for almost a week. I'm dreading it, I know I'll be terrified the whole time. There are neighbors and people I can call if I need to, plus I have my dogs and I'll have John's dad's two big dogs as well. But I know I won't sleep much at all while they're gone.

No my Husband used to get Home at 11:30 at Night and I was here alone for 3 weeks when he was in the Hospital. I was scared after our Truck was broken in a few years because someone knocked on our Door at 4am. The next day I went to go to Curves and everything was all over. They never caught them.

I stay up late so that I won't be unconscious in the dark as long after I fall asleep. Also, I leave a light on.
No weapons, though.

Oh good!! Lol I thought I was alone. Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m just happy my boyfriend totally understands since my family usually makes fun of me LOL (in a fun, nice way of course). As for weapons I donâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t mean like guns or knives, more like making sure whatâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s around me. Like an iron, or my boyfriends weights or something. Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m just aware of whatâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s around me.

I'm never home alone at night, as I have my sisters here pretty much 100% of the time. When the parents go away, we always stay home together to look after each other

I haven't slept at home alone for 21 years (daughter's age). When DH goes out of town, which he hardly ever does, I just have fun with the kids, like eat a picnic supper on the floor, so too tired to be worried.
It was another thing when I was traveling alone on business. I would keep the TV on at night and be wary of every noise. Then, because I travelled so much, I was always on the concierge level with all that security, so no problem.

Only after watching scary movies.
The cats will usually let me know if something is going on.

My DH likes to go out sometimes, and regularly goes to visit friends out of town. So I'm kind of used to it. I do have every lock locked though.

When I first moved into my own apartment, I had to leave a light on at night for the first few weeks. I just wasn't used to all the different noises (creaks, pipe noises, etc.) in my building and I was always a little scared that someone was breaking in
. Now I'm totally fine.

There's no place like home
In the last 18 years, I've only been without dogs for about a year. I'm not even sure if I'm a chicken anymore!

(this, as I sit here with 225 pounds worth of Sam, Spike and Lola sleeping around me and the neighbors "rent a dog" Vadar out front guarding the house).

I am not really. I get lonely more than chicken. I have never been afraid that someone was going to break in. I moved out of my parents house right after high school and lived alone for several years before my husband and I moved in together. When he leaves, I sometimes get lonely, but not frightened. I take walks around my neighborhood at night, sometimes.

I guess I'm a rebel! (which is another word for "careless..." but my town is fairly small and safe)

Nah, I guess since I live alone, I've gotten used to it. I did purchase and take classes for my "equalizer" and would not be afraid to use it.

I think I'm more chicken to live with somebody

Thank goodness, we have a Brinks alarm system here, so that gives us some confidence. And a good thing, too, because without it, every noise the cats make at night would terrify me!

Y'know... my father was 86 years old, and he was terribly weak for the final six years of his life. There was nothing in the world he could have done to fend off an intruder. But still, I find I'm a little more nervous at night now that he's gone.
