Frontline good alternative for Stronghold?

We are looking to switch from Stronghold, since its kind of annoying that we have to take our kitties in for a (paid!) checkup everytime we buy Stronghold, but when we asked the vet nurse for a good non-prescrip alternative, she basically told us that other flea treatments were not as good as stronghold, and would do next to no good.

When pressed, she did recommend Frontline, but was she right? Is Stronghold more efficient and is it a better idea for us to stick to Stronghold (despite the continued costs of unnecessary vet appointments!)?

I have used frontline plus for years on all five cats and my dogs..It has always worked great for me.Nevere heard of stronghold. But I would say that frontline Plus works very well for fleas and ticks..

I use Frontline and it works good. I never heard of Stronghold.
